Everytime I watch @MartinShkreli speak I am reminded how hard trading is. Every time I walk away with one conclusion: don't bring a knife to a gunfight.
Retails have distinct advantages:
- no reporting obligations
- high degree of position freedoms
- high degree of holding durations (due to above)
Retails have distinct weaknesses:
- lack of hedge fund level data
- lack of prime brokerage support
- lack of deep first hand credible information
The gunfight is the month to month, quarter to quarter mark to market competition amongst wall street. The gunfight is trading, and trying to getting ahead of the masses. Retail's knife? So called subscriptions to financial data, technical analysis, X news flow and following the right accounts. They won't hold up.
Embrace being a retail, don't even play their game. Zoom out, focus on what wall street can't do easily, which is holding good companies, for a long long time.
