So, so happy to see this paper finally out:

My tool, StrainFacts, is designed to infer strain genotypes and their relative abundance across multiple metagenomic samples. If you didn't read the preprint on @biorxivpreprint, catch it now in @FrontBioinf!
A great RA opportunity at the UCSF microbiome center. Perfect for a recent university graduate with some experience in microbiology and genomics assays (and who wants a lot more). Work with some awesome researchers in San Francisco!

Woohoo, our paper on the discovery of 65 new phages dependent on conjugative plasmids is published in it's final form today in @NatureComms ! Here follows a thread (1/ ) https://t.co/8e7gXpAqsv
Accurate estimation of intraspecific microbial gene content variation in metagenomic data with MIDAS v3 and StrainPGC https://t.co/zPl8lwNr0j #biorxiv_micrbio
@noah_legall Not sure how your pseudogene calling works, but I'd double check that the gene doesn't hit a contig boundary. Also, additional non-synonymous mutations (in the new frame) after a frame-shift would be good support, since these would accumulate more without purifying selection.
The "Ship of Theseus" article has been edited 1792 times since it was created in July of 2003. At present, 0% of the phrases in the original article (seen below) remain.
I spent several months earlier this year investigating "precision nutrition" microbiome company Viome and its colorful founder, only for both scientists and former employees to share some shocking revelations.

Two of my bills that will make it easier to build housing in San Francisco and beyond were signed into law by Governor @GavinNewsom yesterday.
✅ AB 1114 will stop the "only in San Francisco" practice of allowing appeals to housing projects, including affordable housing, even AFTER they've received all their approvals. It is part of why SF is the most expensive and slowest place to build housing. That will end now.
✅ AB 1485 gives the power to the Attorney General, with the sponsorship of @RobBonta, to actually enforce housing law regardless of who files an appeal first and stop cities from flagrantly violating housing law and refusing new shelters, housing or treatment facilities in violation of the law.
Let's build more housing NOW and stop cities who want to refuse all multi family housing that our state desperately needs. No more inaction.
@JohnDCook I think I'd celebrate a random sample of all "divergent thinkers" at time t in the past about as much as I would the same sample today. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With 50,000 journals, it can be difficult to efficiently determine a paper's Impact Factor. That's why we're excited to announce Impact Shade, a partnership with all major scientific publishers, that lets you determine if a paper is worth your time w/out having to read any words!
one time in college a professor spent 90 minutes talking about an example scenario that involved beef and i thought nothing of it until several weeks later when i found out that my classmate had made a minute long compilation of all 125 times he said "beef" in one lecture
What a meeting!! Thank you everyone for coming and presenting your best science, it was so nice to have a real in-person meeting at @CSHL. Beautiful scenery and great colleagues, it can’t get better than this. #cshlmbiome
