Thank you to every police officer, member of staff & volunteer for all they’ve done to fight crime and keep the public safe this year. As people will be enjoying time with their loved ones this Christmas, we particularly thank those who continue to work during the festive period.
This morning, we marked Armistice Day with a service of remembrance and two minutes of silence to remember all those who have given their lives for our freedom.

The horrific act of violence in Southport has left families grieving and a whole community in a state of shock. My thoughts remain with all those affected. I cannot begin to imagine what they will be going through at this time. Their grief must be at the forefront of our minds.
I want to thank all my officers and staff for the hard work, passionate & bravery & commitment that they have shown over the past 36 hours. 22 officers& 3 police dogs injured. These staff will now be unavailable for duty in what is an incredibly busy time for the force.
I’m very grateful to the @MerseyPolice officers and to those from @gmpolice, @cheshirepolice, @LancsPolice and @NWPolice who provided mutual aid. They want to be supporting their communities to deal with the aftermath of this attack - they do not deserve to be pelted with bricks.
My thoughts this afternoon are with everyone affected by the horrific and deeply distressing incident in Southport. I’m grateful to the police officers and other emergency services responding.

@CollegeofPolice is supporting forces to improve contact management in a variety of ways and this resource provides examples of innovative practice as well as signposting to relevant college guidance, standards and advice. 3/3
For most of the public, force control rooms are the first point of contact with the police when they have a problem. Forces are handling more contact from the public than ever before, with increasingly complex issues. 1/3
When someone calls the police, it could be one of the most difficult days in their life. It's vital they get the best service from first contact.

The public expect a range of ways to contact the police and rightly demand outstanding levels of customer service - when services fall short it has a direct impact on public trust and confidence. 2/3
