Countercultural father. Catholic traditional pseudonymous; wife not really called Anna, 4 kids who aren't really called Antonia, Bernadette, Charlie & Dominique
An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

@sitsio I take it you’ve read Eamonn Duffy’s The Stripping of the Altars on pre-reformation Catholicism? Very good on the laity’s very active engagement with their Faith (inter alia).
Cardinal Walter Brandmüller has put his finger on precisely the problem with “synodality”. The issue is not whether bishops should listen to priests and laity, of course they should. The real issue is whether consultation is quietly being transformed into co-government.
Brandmüller, one of the Church’s most distinguished historians, argues that a Catholic synod has traditionally been an assembly of bishops exercising the magisterial and pastoral ministry they possess by virtue of Holy Orders.
What concerns him about the new model is the introduction of structures in which bishops, clergy and laity increasingly appear as participants with an equal voice, resembling democratic or Protestant ecclesial structures, but the Catholic Church is not a parliament. Episcopal authority belongs to the sacramental and hierarchical constitution Christ gave His Church.
So lay consultation *can* therefore be thoroughly Catholic, but lay co-government is another matter entirely! And Cardinal Brandmüller identifies the deeper danger: secularisation. Once we begin imagining the Church primarily through the categories of representation, participation, equality and institutional process, we risk forgetting what the Church actually claims to be: not merely a human organisation, but a supernatural society constituted by Christ.
That is why the endless inability to define precisely what “synodality” means is no trivial semantic problem. Before restructuring the Church around a concept, surely Catholics are entitled to ask exactly what that concept means. https://t.co/xHtdNQGIVO
The tragic case of the young Cambridge professor, Jason Arday, has shed new light on the moral vacuity at the heart of Wokeism.
If I can state the matter abstractly, one should never place relative values in the center of one’s ethical concern. Only absolute goods belong in that location.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are values, but only, as the medievals would have said, secundum quid and not in se. That means they are worthwhile sometimes and under certain conditions, but not in themselves.
In contrast, love and justice are absolute moral principles, for they are always applicable, no matter the circumstances.
Wokeism relativized justice (rendering to each his due) and love (willing the true good of the other) and absolutized diversity, equity, and inclusion. The result is the moral shipwreck that we have been witnessing the last ten years.
What makes things even sadder is that lots of people have been profiting off of this moral confusion.
@hfgt2xwf8j@AidanSimardone He’s referring to the laws that prohibit silent peaceful prayer outside abortion centres, where millions have been executed unjustly, I assume.
This is NOT a political issue & shouldn't be made into one. It's physics & human anatomy. Sophie Cunningham is correct.
A thread/example 🧵:
The fastest woman in history is Florence Griffith-Joyner, fabulously known as Flo-Jo 🏃🏾♀️ 💅
Her world record in the 100 meter dash is an astonishing 10.49 seconds. This record has stood completely untouched for decades & still stands today 🥇
When compared to professional men, Flo-Jo's all-time historic speed is heavily outmatched by the biological & physiological realities of male sprinting mechanics.
At the professional Men's Level, Flo Jo would be UNRANKED. According to World Athletics data, over 1,900 men have run faster than Flo-Jo’s 10.49 second women's world record. Her time would fail to qualify for any standard professional or NCAA men’s track meet.
Her 10.49-second mark aligns perfectly with the elite U.S. high school boys' level.
76 high school boys ran faster than Flo-Jo's record in 2019 alone.
It's nowhere near fair to amazing women athletes that work hard their whole lives to compete against biological men.
@TheWordPreached You are much mistaken. Devotion to Mary does not diminish adoration of the Blessed Trinity, any more than my devotion to my mother does.
Seeing the wonder of the created heightens our gratitude and awe towards the Creator.
Can’t say it loudly enough because it is the truth - the ultimate defence. All of the entities on the list published by Amnesty last week were launched SPECIFICALLY to persecute or ban trans people. Every single one. Without exception.
Take that motive away, none would exist.
