@aussie_billy@Kyptastic1 Hawthorn traded back not out. There's zero reason we couldn't have done the same with that pick. Anything else is just cope or complete misunderstanding of how it works.
@aussie_billy@Kyptastic1 You literally can't go into a draft with more selections than list spots.
Doing the deal would have left us with 1 pick we didn't have room for, pretty easy to just delist a bloke prior to the draft with the promise to redraft them
Or just trade it away pre-draft.
@markpentecost10@FungFungsh@AllEssendon How is that wrong?
You've literally said the exact same thing I did.
I clearly stated Hawthorn made the deal before they made us an offer (You know, the deal with Carlton???)
I guess reading isn't a strength of yours?
@EgotisticUser@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey So the List Manager's of both Essendon and Hawthorn confirmed it was a F1 offered last year, but you know better hey?
Speaking of idiots.....
@EgotisticUser@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey Well you certainly didn't, so I guess that's something.
Deal's not equivalent to anyone with at least half a functioning brain.
@markpentecost10@FungFungsh@AllEssendon They offered 10 to us, we traded for 9 from Carlton. Hawthorn had done that deal before they made us an offer. We could have had both.
Keep up champ
@NSumner2000@Trats1999 It cost us Draper compo and 2 more seconds to get that pick (from Carlton).
Has nothing to do with our stupidity for not taking last years offer from hawthorn.
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey You still don't understand that trading Merrett opens a bloody list spot. Genuinely clueless.
22 can evaporate for all I care (it would have been traded and we both know it), we're still ahead.
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey The thing you aren't comprehending is that trading Merrett opens a list spot.
We then do the 2 hawthorn trades, and pass on 22 for all I care, we're way ahead (Realistically other clubs would have come for it)
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey The deal with Carlton benefitted them as much as us. It gets done.
That leaves us with 2 picks offered from the Hawks deal last year, gaining 1 extra list spot with Merrett out
We could have taken last years deal, passed on the pick 22 they gave us and still ended up better off
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey Because at that point we'd have already taken Sharp, and adding early future 2nds at the cost of a couple of draft spots is just good business.
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey No I'm not. We'd have done the Carlton deal anyway (We had no way of using all those 2nd rounders).
Taking the Hawthorn deal has zero bearing on that.
Absolute cope to think otherwise.
@bombertim55@Bromac22V@CalTwomey Reposting an incorrect opinion doesn't make it correct.
Look where Hawthorn got 25 and 26 from (trading that pick 10 back a couple of places).
We do that deal, and we come out with an extra 2 late firsts last year, plus 26 this year, all at the cost of a 2028 2nd rounder.
@Rick_Rossy0@CalTwomey Interesting way to look at it.
If we'd traded last year, and did the two trades Hawthorn did (trading pick 10 down), we'd have 2 late firsts last year, plus 26 this year as opposed to a 2028 Second Rounder.
Would have had 15+25 in both scenarios.
Nowhere near equivalent.
