I have some advice for young men newly employed,

When you get employed:

• Be grateful to God, your parents, your mentors and your boss for this opportunity

• Work hard

• Respect your employer

• Adhere to your employer's rules and protocols

• Embrace the mission and vision of the employer

However, if working for your employer becomes unbearable due to other reasons,

• Quit respectfully

• Follow the procedures of quitting as written in your contract or employment letter

• Return your employer's resources in your custody

• Handover politely and thank your employer for giving you an opportunity

• Leave with a clean conscience

Don't be chaotic, abusive and contemptuous on your way out.

Don't think you are smarter than your employer.

The employer you are disrespecting gave you a livelihood when you were seeking a footing and direction.

The employer may not have paid you to your satisfaction, but be polite.

Don't go bad mouthing your employer, speaking nastily, and broadcasting your foul mouth while disclosing what is considered private policies, programs, products or services of your former workplace.

Leave courteously.

This way, you open room for better opportunities, newer networks and better leverage.

Don't be a rude employee. Other employers will fear giving you opportunities in the future because they don't trust you.

Be courteous when you close the door behind you, the universe will be kind to you on your way out.

Ongoing construction works at Chuka University are a clear reflection of how the Government's education reforms are breathing new life into public institutions.

The once-stalled Vision 2030 Science Park has been revived and the Food Science Complex is complete awaiting commissioning, signalling renewed progress and innovation.

The university is also setting up a solar-powered milk processing plant that will process milk from local farmers, create jobs and enhance value addition within Tharaka Nithi County.

These remarkable strides have been made possible through the Government's new university funding model, which is transforming higher education by making it fair, sustainable and accessible to all.

Before its rollout, many public universities faced financial strain and stalled projects. Today, the model is restoring stability, promoting accountability and ensuring that every deserving student can pursue higher education without undue financial burden.

Under the new structure, student fees have been reduced by up to 40%, while loans have been standardized between Ksh 40,000 and Ksh 55,000.

The model integrates three key components; scholarship, loan and household contribution, where parents contribute about 22% and the Government covers the rest.

This balanced approach allows universities to plan sustainably while maintaining affordability for families.

If you think you went to college to get a good job, you will be frustrated forever.

Also, there is nothing like a 'marketable course'. It doesn't exist.

The only marketable thing is your skill. If your skill is able to add value, every consumer will be looking for you.

All courses are marketable. It depends on how you turn your course into a specialized skill.

You need two types of skills

- Specialized skills.

- Soft skills.

Specialized skills help you build a unique product. A unique product is a solution that solves a problem.

Soft skills help you create a sustainable relationship with the market which translates to selling your product.

Here are the different types of products people buy:

1. This product will solve my pain.

2. This product will make my life easier.

3. This product will connect me to a community or a tribe.

4. This product will help me make more money.

Your parents went to school to be employed by Government and International companies because during their days, employees were in high demand. Therefore, colleges trained them to be loyal employees.

However today, things have changed.
