Deeply saddened that Disney Legend Burny Mattinson—our longest serving employee—has passed away. Burny started as a messenger on the lot in 1953 & went on to become a true icon of @DisneyAnimation. We are forever grateful for his contributions & seven decades of service.
RIP, Ralph Eggleston, who has died from pancreatic cancer at 56. He won an Oscar for his short 'For the Birds,' but that doesn't even begin to describe his legacy. Pixar films look the way they do in large part because of him. A cornerstone of that company. Full obit to come.
20 years ago we were amazed at how real computers made animation look. But audiences seem over it now. When did you last hear someone marvel at how real a movie looked? Now I hear more talk and excitement when a movie looks CARTOONY! So I have hope for 2D returning to Disney.
It's nice hearing hand-drawn animation might return to Disney. Thanks to stuff like Mitchells/Machines, Spiderverse and Bad Guys, stylized animation is IN right now. Hopefully this means we're finally moving past the whole "real = better" mindset that killed 2D in the first place
