@Sydneycpaul Interesting point! I think some times artists might tend to sound worse live and that’s likely a big part of the reason why. Nonetheless people will always watch live music for the social interaction
I somewhat agree with Walls assessment of pop fans today. While it is true that most people will always prefer the original version of a song over a cover, I think the social aspect of watching live performances will always keep cover bands alive and thriving. #S22POPMUS
@JooHyukPhilipJo I agree that it is definitely culture theft. Perhaps the worst part is it is likely that the artists who stole the songs tried to played them off as their own, giving no credit to the original.
@Kayleigh8894 This is a good point! It’s important that mistakes like these are continuously learnt from so we can continue to strive for equality in all walks of life.
Schlock rock to me is a clear example of culture theft. Schlock was harmful to the artist who made the originals however I don’t think all culture theft is bad. Sometimes by integrating parts of different cultures into our own we can expand our understanding of others. #S22POPMUS
Ray Charles does a great job useing a breaking voice to display very real, authentic emotion throughout his songs. Most artist tend to rely on lyrics to display emotion so this sets Ray a part from many others. #S22POPMUS
@sarahmlamswood Good point. The way people listen to music seemed to gain importance only after more and more listening technologies became accessible.
Music streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify have really helped me discover new genres of music. Before using these platforms I was only exposed to the music played on the radio. I’ve since been able to learn what my favourite genres truly are. #S22POPMUS
@michaeljoc123 I agree. Music does not always have to have a deeper meaning. Sometimes gaining perspective from an artist can be worth more then simply hearing an opinion in a song.
I do not agree that popular music is a "dumbed-down" form of music. Although some songs we hear on the radio may have little meaning, there are plenty of popular songs which tackle complex topics such as equality and self harm. #S22POPMUS
