The Long Goodbye is the gradual fading of a person's personality and presence with late stage dementia. Eventually, the person you knew is no longer in there.

Grief, anxiety, guilt, regret, and anger cycle nonstop as you helplessly watch them slip away. The weight is constant but you have to carry on and stay grateful for what you had and have. You must find ways to produce positive energy when you’re completely burnt out.

That’s why I’m in the gym an awkward amount, it’s my refuge. Every workout turns into a “f*ck off” to dementia regardless of how I feel when I start.

If you’re in a similar situation, you aren’t alone. It’s a traumatic grind so give yourself some grace and lean on your best friends.
