Code can't give you art. Code can't emote. Code can't create.
Art matters. Literature matters. Aesthetics matter. Beauty matters. A cultivated life of mind matters.
We are not gears and widgets, but ensouled flesh and blood and we forget that to our detriment.
@TheAlanNoble Just had a random unrelated thought: Every now and then Iโm reminded that there are a lot of people that are able to pass themselves off as insightful who are, in fact, ill-educated, self-aggrandizing bores.
One thing weโve loved with our boys is watching old Disney Live action movies. Havenโt watched Tall Tale yet, but one that weโve loved that even my Disney soaked wife had never heard of was Treasure of Matecumbe.
It was great fun. Essentially a western, and a decent intro to that genre for the younger ones.
@Donaldwebb33552@jstewartIndy Actually, Tinker v Des Moines says otherwise.
There are some exceptions that have been carved out, but Iโm not sure this policy should fall under those carve outs (lewd/vulgar/obscene speech; school sponsored speech [newspaper, yearbook, etc]).
If we are ever curious, this is what Satan looks like. Not horns and a pitchfork, but a bitter, sarcastic smile mocking your suffering. We can see his face because these are his children.
Reminder that John Adams described the Vice President as โthe most insignificant Office that ever the Invention of Man contrived or his Imagination conceived.โ
This is simply not true.
Any social history of, for example, the 18th century will show you that women managed the household, including the household accounts.
At the Randolph House in Colonial Williamsburg, for example, you go through Elizabeth Randolphโs office, from which she managed the household. The display includes, or at least did when I was there, lockboxes not only for money but also for the extremely expensive commodities that would have been kept at the house.
This idea that women traditionally had zero agency is an ignorant fabrication, primarily cooked up by second wave feminists in the 20th century. That itโs been adopted as truth by so many who would claim to be opposed to feminism is, objectively, hilarious.
@mauddweeb I think weโre talking past each other man. A woman saying โgiving a woman full control of finances is tradโ is incorrect because, traditionally, women had no control over finances. My original post is about the definition of trad.
@EWErickson It just amazes me that they canโt wrap their minds around it.
They have no theory of mind for folks who live down here, no matter the race.
The flag we fly in front of our house daily is starting to show some wear. I would love to replace it before the 4th. Does anyone have suggestions for good, American-owned, American-manufactured flags?
