@Thomasdelvasto_ I'll look into it! I think its true that earlier anglo migration more selected for contrarians (of different types) while later migration from the rest of europe were mainly people from poor backgrounds (and not necessarily contrarian/freedom loving/etc) - though ofc hard working
@NgoloTesla@JordiGillet Thank for this pdf. Very cool! One thing a bit unclear for me: how long do you need to hold the spoon to the battery? I just tried it and held it for 10 seconds or so, unsure if that was enough..The water felt refreshing though
@junhoBTC The italian apennines look decent from this sim, yet I recall in the location tier-list that the apennines were terrible. How come? Earthquake risks?
@LandsharkRides Can confirm. Probably the most common recurring discussion among grey-beard psychiatrists is how much better it was when the asylums were still open. Instead we have schizophrenics being admitted and discharged on a monthly basis life long. It is dehumanizing and sad.
@Philip_Goff LLMs are probably not conscious, though the hardware used may be (GPU's etc). As for the sun, the question is whether its experiences are bound together (as in mammals) or if it's just having many disparate microexperiences.
@Conjecturist @leecronin In what way do we know that consciousness is an emergent property of intelligence? Seems like a big claim. It is not clear to me that consciousness and intelligence are fundamentally related at all.
@is_charizard@Hntaigana@webdevMason I'm not sure if you're serious. Surely bringing 2-3 suitcases per person if you're leaving your home forever would qualify as only essentials. Some people bring 2 suitcases for a 10 day vacation.
@nickcammarata are stuck in a vicious loop. People capable of jhanas are generally mentally healthy (either from the get-go or through the purifying effects of jhana). As such, there are fewer reasons to escape the current moment
@nickcammarata I think it fits well within (some) mainsci theories of addiction - that ppl get addicted bc their experience of the current moment is stressful/negatively valenced (bc of trauma, depression etc) and the quickest way out of it is eg drugs. The mind quickly learns this and then you
