The online right has this Common People-esque view of white working class areas and people. I think a lot of is kneejerk reaction to grooming gangs and the grinding ethnic cleansing of inner cities, which I can understand.

It misses the fundamental truth, that those of us that grew up in these places know, which is that even before/without diversity, they are fucking grim. The streets are grim, the people are cunts, and it requires a gentrification miracle for them to change.

The list of possible solutions is long and varied, but they all start with a level of policing and security that would rival Bukele.

I never realised just how serious the crime problem in Middlesbrough was until the recent violence and deaths put the area firmly in the spotlight.

Now you look back and see footage of youths smashing house windows and damaging cars in broad daylight.

When gangs are able to terrorise entire communities, the authorities have lost control.

If the police don't have the resources to restore order, bring in military support if necessary.

Residents deserve safe streets, not fear outside their own front doors.
