Today we also got to know the mother’s
amendments tabled today will not have retroactive effect if they become legally enforceable, & will only have legal effect on those born or made citizenship applications after the amendments become law.

If the right of children of PR born in Msia is amended from citizenship by operation of law to citizenship by registration, it can no longer be challenged in court.

Currently, a native/Tamil parent with a red IC can just show their IC and the child born in M’sia will have “warganegara” on its birth cert.

Once this amendment is passed, they will have to *prove* that the child will have no other citizenship. V difficult to prove a negative.
