ON THIS DATE IN 2005: This statement was issued by NWS meteorologist Robert Ricks (from the Slidell office) at mid-morning on August 28, 2005.
At the time, Katrina was a category five hurricane in the Gulf, similar in strength to Camille in 1969. It would make landfall the next day as a category three at Waveland Mississippi. 
Some thought this “doomsday” statement was a hoax. Unfortunately, it wasn’t... as everyone would find out the next day.
The Kentucky Mesonet site near Mayfield in western Kentucky has current temp of 92 and a dewpoint temp of an astounding 84 degrees.
The heat index in Mayfield is now 117. Wow. #kywx
BREAKING: The House has passed legislation to make Daylight Saving Time permanent nationwide, ending the twice-a-year clock changes by a 308-117 vote. Backed by President Trump, the bill now heads to the Senate. If approved and signed into law, Americans would no longer have to change their clocks.
