Crypto Market Today, Oct. 22: Bitcoin and Altcoins Slide as Wall Street Fears Spill Into Crypto Markets

Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) fell 3.29% to $81,263.73, Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) fell 3.64% to $2,381.38, and Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) fell 3.27% to $103.31. As of early evening on Oct. 22, all three were under pressure as risk appetite faded across markets.

What's driving crypto markets
Macro weakness was the main backdrop, with oil prices holding above $111 a barrel and Nasdaq futures softening as traders trimmed risk exposure; Bitcoin briefly slipped below $81,000, according to https://t.co/m8wfAiAaKL and https://t.co/d2g7V6LtfC. Meanwhile, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade went live today, but that network milestone did not offset the broader sell-off, while Ethereum developers are still outlining a draft settlement change that could cut finality time to about four minutes, a potentially important payments update, according to https://t.co/d2g7V6LtfC and https://t.co/d2g7V6LtfC.

Crypto Market Today, Oct. 21: Bitcoin Rebounds on Tech Rally

What's driving crypto markets
Bitcoin's gains reflect a rebound in tech stocks and increased risk appetite today. More broadly, blockchain assets got a structural boost from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) today as it finalized stablecoin rules -- essentially implementing the Genius Act that Washington passed last year. That's particularly useful for programmable cryptos like Ethereum and Solana, as stablecoins get issued on their ecosystems.

Crypto Crash Today: Why Is Bitcoin Stuck Below $82,000?

Crypto Crash Today: What Is Happening in the Market?
$Bitcoin is trading at $81,382 on October 20, 2026, down 1.6% in 24 hours, 2.9% over the week and 7% since January. The $82,000 level, which analysts flagged as the line in the sand after the first week of October, has turned from support into a ceiling that BTC keeps bumping its head against.

BTC/USD  1W
The real damage is further down the table. $Ethereum sits at $2,382, nearly 20% lower on the year. $XRP is down almost 30% in 2026, $Dogecoin and solana:JCqaX2xkY4MSWj2Fd3VQPLy2V9ZzTEoqTZ6VdQhyi1Go have lost more than a third of their value, and $Solana is off 16%. Total crypto market cap has slipped to about $2.74 trillion, with the Fear and Greed index hovering at a neutral 49, which tells you traders are nervous but not yet panicking.

So is this a crypto crash or just a slow bleed? Both, depending on where you look. Bitcoin is grinding sideways to lower, while altcoins are being quietly drained. Below we go through today's prices and then the two sets of reasons behind the drop: what the charts and on-chain data say, and what the macro world is throwing at crypto.

Crypto News Today: Bitcoin Holds $82K Despite 4 Year High Inflation as Pepeto Buyers Pile In

Crypto news today should have been bad for Bitcoin, and somehow it was not. US producer prices jumped 6.3% in a year in September, the most in over four years, KuCoin’s daily report shows. Yet Bitcoin opened October 16 at $82,132, up 0.7% on the day, per Yahoo Finance.

When bad news cannot push the price down, it usually means buyers are already stepping in quietly. While the headlines move big money into Bitcoin, something smaller is building right below them: Pepeto, a meme coin with its own security scanner.

Crypto News Today: Crypto PACs Pour $52M Into Ohio as ETH and AAVE Dip, While $11.2M Backs Pepeto

Anyone checking crypto news today wants one answer: is crypto getting stronger or weaker? This week, an election answered it, not a chart.Crypto PACs have spent more than $52 million to stop Sherrod Brown, Cointelegraph reported on October 16.

He wants his Senate seat back. Yet Ether still sits 51% under its record, per CoinMarketCap. In 2024, Fairshake spent $41 million against Brown, and he lost his seat. That money fights over the big rules. Right below the headlines, something smaller is building. Pepeto (https://t.co/inrHtvXazA) , a meme coin in presale whose $0 bridge already runs, has drawn over $11.2 million.

Crypto Market News Today: Bitmine Adds 12,532 ETH as Remittix’s November Launch Brings a Different Entry Point

Crypto market news today is focused on Bitmine after the company added 12,532 ETH during the latest week. Its treasury now contains 6.03 million ETH, equal to approximately 4.9% of supply. Persistent institutional accumulation strengthens Ethereum, but its enormous valuation limits the percentage effect of each purchase.

Remittix offers a different entry point before November 24. Instead of relying on one treasury buyer, the ecosystem can grow through payment customers, perpetual traders and depositors. Revenue expansion from a smaller base could produce a far sharper RTX response than another corporate ETH purchase.

US CPI Inflation LIVE Updates Today Oct. 14: Will Hot CPI Data Trigger Bitcoin, XRP, Crypto Selloff?

US CPI Inflation LIVE Updates Today October 14: US CPI inflation data is in focus as investors assess the Federal Reserve’s next interest rate decision and its potential impact on financial markets. The CPI data for September may affect the mood for further policy actions as well as for the Treasury yields and US dollar.

Now, the problem for Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and the crypto market is whether the inflation will make people more optimistic about a more aggressive monetary policy stance and help push back towards selling pressure. Investors will pay attention to headline and core inflation levels for continued signs of pressure on prices as sluggish job growth adds difficulty for the Fed policymakers.

Bitcoin pulls back from $84,000 as oil recovers, ETFs bleed over $600 million

Bitcoin rebounded to nearly $84,000 as oil prices declined, while most other major cryptocurrencies also advanced.
U.S.-listed spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $681 million in outflows last week, their largest weekly withdrawal since June.
Analysts identified $82,000 as a key support level and said U.S. inflation data due Oct. 14 could be the market’s next major catalyst.

CryptocurrencyCrypto News Today: Remittix Markets Passes $50 Million in Volume as Major Coins Struggle for Direction

Crypto news today presents an uneven market. Bitcoin recovered toward $83,000 after an October dip, Ethereum remained around $2,500 and Solana held close to $110. None of those moves settles the next major trend. For buyers searching beyond the daily chart, activity inside a working platform may tell a more interesting story than a token simply waiting for the market to turn.

Remittix says its live Markets venue has processed more than $50 million in cumulative trading volume. The company is also testing PayFi with invited RTX holders ahead of a planned November 24 debut. A payments service, trading venue and wallet reaching users before exchange trading give the project several ways to attract new audiences as market sentiment changes.

Why Bitcoin could crash below $80K today after another failed rebound

Bitcoin faced renewed pressure over the last few days as higher oil prices and rising US Treasury yields encouraged investors to reduce risk exposure.

The continued disruptions to Middle East energy supply chains linked to the US-Iran conflict pushed Brent crude above $100 a barrel and the US 10-year Treasury yield beyond 5.3%.

Those moves heightened concerns about inflation and financial conditions, weighing on Bitcoin’s ability to sustain a recovery.
