1. We have been struck by the number of schools using coloured paper / overlays as standard interventions for children with reading difficulties. We did an informal Twitter poll & at the time of writing, 74% of the 1,120 respondents said that their school uses this approach.

The resilience to stand firm in the face of any of the toxic elements below whilst maintaining high expectations is one of the biggest challenges of the job right now.
More schools need to do this. If not every school.
Safeguarding needs appropriate capacity to be able to do it justice. Interested to know how Headteacher has structured this- sounds incredible!

🚨Recruiting: Non-teaching SLT/DSL🚨
We are once again seeking to appoint a non-teaching Assistant Principal to be the DSL.
This vacancy is for @AbbeyfieldSch in Northampton.
Advertised Salary: c.£58k - £64k
Amazing opportunity. @CreativeEdTrust https://t.co/t9c40T8FHg
This is weird and concerning. Coordinated disruption is a headache schools working hard to teach kids don’t need. And for what? Because students can’t leave the classroom when they feel like it? Bonkers. https://t.co/D6BFIcfuTM
@ianwhite21 Another cracking thread from Mr White. I actually think your best bit of advice here is about planning for the hour and delivering first 30- it’s looks after a lot of the other points because planning becomes honed for what is achievable.
@misshaywoodECT@ianwhite21 IMO it’s about consistency with school procedures & being willing to practice them if there is a shortfall. ‘Do it again’ in action.
Invest time in showing pupils what you expect- we get what we permit, overlooking behaviour that doesn’t meet expectation further erodes over time
@miss_mcinerney@ianwhite21 Agreed. For any of my staff who engage with twitter this will be a must read.
Setting a culture or getting a culture is a choice at a leadership level- owe it to our staff to ensure they have the mechanisms to feel supported and in control in any way we can
@ianwhite21@Mr_N_Wood This is establishing the culture of a school 101.
It’s amazing how all stakeholders are liberated by the removal of grey areas & a focus on clear expectations. It only has sustainability when led relentlessly from top to bottom. ‘Drift’ is real if it isn’t.
