I met with leadership at Axiom Space yesterday to discuss the development of their spacesuit. It was great to see their facilities and all the progress.
I shared with them exactly what I told our HLS providers: NASA will do all we can to help them accelerate and meet the timelines, with plenty of schedule margin to spare.
As an agency, we must be willing to challenge the requirements and not let an hour go by on a problem we can solve today. This is imperative to achieving the President’s national space policy.
A big thank you to @Axiom_Space for months of pressurized suit testing of our FLEX rover.
Tests have focused on the crew stand which astronauts will use while driving FLEX on the Moon. Feedback from the test subjects has allowed us to put crew considerations front and center.
Back in September, Astrolab and @Axiom_Space worked together on final adjustments to pack up our FLEX rover mockup for delivery to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Axiom Space and Astrolab engineers are working to ensure the integration of the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) with the FLEX rover mockup, in support of Artemis’ unprecedented scientific experimentation and discovery on the lunar surface. The mockup came together through months of work at Astrolab’s office in Hawthorne, California and Axiom’s office in Houston, Texas, in close coordination with NASA and the team at JSC.
Shoutout to our Astrolab team and all of our hardworking teammates who designed, developed, tested and delivered our mockup of FLEX to @NASA_Johnson earlier this year. We're proud to be working with NASA to test out the mockup, and look forward to working more on our Lunar Terrain Vehicle in 2025.
In April, @Astro_Wheels and I tested the @Axiom_Space Suits to interact with and evaluate the hardware of SpaceX's Starship Human Landing System that will be used as part of NASA Artemis to land humans on the Moon!
The first Artemis III Integrated Test is now complete.
Axiom Space, along with @NASA and @SpaceX, tested how the #AxEMU and elements such as Starship will work together during the Artemis III mission. (1/2)
When #Artemis astronauts land on the lunar surface during Artemis III, they will be wearing a spacesuit developed by @Axiom_Space as they explore the South Pole region of the Moon. In preparation for the upcoming lunar mission, Axiom Space has been making steady progress on the design and testing of its spacesuit. https://t.co/sJwGgi342o
