Major update to NextBrain segmentation! Version 1 was unusable without a huge GPU. New release:
1. Uses @rohitrango's FireANTs & simplified atlas to segment a brain in 20-30 mins without a GPU (or minutes on a GPU).
2. It is more robust.
Give it a try!

It's out!
See the paper for all things brainstem fmri, brainstem-cortex relationships, neuromodulatory receptors, functional gradients, moody colourmaps, wonderbread plots, the word "umwelt", 6 more raphe nuclei than you thought there were,
Wow! Our PhD student Violette Ayral chairing a session with Dr Claudio Liguori at the Sleep Europe 2024 @ESRS_Sleep meeting on cognition and sleep. Congratulations Violette and amazing session!! #sleep#dementia
💡#OHBM24's "Deep Learning in Neuroimaging" Course = now online with 6 videos, great sound quality!
💡Course was a huge hit, it went from very simple to extremely advanced in just 1 day. The 6 videos:
1⃣Here's my 1-hour "guided tour" talk if you haven't seen it already -
https://t.co/9OHjKZho9m
2⃣ Sergey Plis - https://t.co/hMgP1uyMUZ
Great introductory talk on CNNs, and how they work - perfect for beginners (and experts!)
3⃣Jing Sui - https://t.co/fNemRtxYzt amazing tour of methods+applications
4⃣ Chao-Gan Yan - https://t.co/yn6acgKRU6
this is one of the top-performing AD classifiers, and is open source
5⃣ Anqi Qiu - difficult talk on graph CNNs and Hodge calculus, I finally understood it, I had seen her give this talk 3 times and this one is exceptional https://t.co/swzviiSaTx
6⃣Tom Nichols - https://t.co/zpxsoGRkVf
superb conceptual talk, how to think about novel AI methods - also includes conformal inference
Congrats @anqi_qiu@PlisSergey@ycgyan@ten_photos and Jing Sui
Thanks @AlfieWearn@StephForkel@sofievalk + their team for putting these online for everyone 🎉🪅🥳🪩
Inequality Accelerates Brain Aging
Researchers have found that brain aging is accelerated in countries with higher levels of inequality, whether economic, environmental, or health-related.
By analyzing brain scans from over 5,000 participants across 15 countries, the study revealed that socioeconomic factors, pollution, and diseases contribute significantly to the difference between the biological and chronological age of the brain.
The study highlighted that people in countries with greater inequality, particularly those in Latin America and the Caribbean, tend to have older brain ages, especially in regions of the brain most affected by aging.
The research also found that individuals with dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease, exhibited the most significant brain age gaps.
Additionally, women in less developed countries showed greater brain age gaps, influenced by both biological and gender disparities.
These findings emphasize the importance of addressing social and environmental factors in public health policies to promote healthier brain aging.
