Cancer survivors and those diagnosed with forms of the disease have been outside of Westminster explaining what it is they need from the UK government.
Following an incredible response from our "write to MP" action, we've been meeting MPs from all different parties in Parliament. Yesterday we met with @gregorystafford, @ollygloverLD, @NicDakin55 and Martin Vickers MP to continue our call for a National Brain Tumour Strategy.
'If I asked you what the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s was, what would you say? I doubt you would have answered brain tumours. Yet despite this, time and again people diagnosed with brain tumours are overlooked and left to fall through the cracks of health policies'
The brain tumour community has been overlooked by healthcare policies. As the government engages in consultations for the 10-Year Health Plan, it’s essential to improve support for patients. Dr Michele Afif @BrainTumourOrg explains why. #PartnerContent

Today our Policy team met with @CliveJonesMP, where we shared an update on our campaign for a National Brain Tumour Strategy. Following the announcement of a cancer plan at the debate Clive secured last week, we discussed how our asks feed into the cancer and 10-year health plan.
Thank you so much to @CommonsHealth for recognising the call for a National Brain Tumour Strategy. We’re looking forward to seeing the final report from the Future Cancer Inquiry & if you’d like to find out more and see our submission you can find here: https://t.co/T7jp1yX55C

Today we handed in our open letter with 52K signatures, asking for a National Brain Tumour Strategy. We must see this implemented across the devolved nations so we’ve made sure the letter has gone to each Minister across the four nations. Now we wait for a response #ItsANoBrainer

Proud to be able to bring the needs of our community to the attention of the Rt Hon @Andrew4Pendle, Minister of Health and Secondary Care @DHSCgovuk and to highlight with urgency the very real opportunity to develop solutions which can truly overcome the barriers to brain tumours
We’re thrilled to have welcomed @ranil, MP for North East Hampshire to our offices yesterday. It was great to discuss how we can get faster diagnoses and kinder treatments for individuals and families living with a brain tumour.
The voice of people with rare and less common cancers just keeps growing as we welcome @Sonia_F_Malik@TeenageCancer to the @roche gathering at #CPC2023 tonight to hear @SteveBarclay speak. All fingers crossed for good news ref smoking ban tomorrow
Great to gather with so many member charities at #CPC2023 all there to raise the voice of people with rare and less common cancers. Critical that this voice is heard as the Major Conditions Strategy evolves.
Absolutely, for some cancers the FDS is not reflective of patients' experience. Getting a referral in the first place is the problem. Almost 1/4 of people with a #braintumour visited their GP +3 times before getting a diagnosis. We need a standard that is meaningful for all!
1/2 Despite the NHS waiting time data meeting the Faster Diagnosis Standard, this does not account for the experiences of #braintumour patients who struggle to receive a referral in the first place - 28% visit their GP 3 times or more before getting a diagnosis.

The question is, what could help?
Fundamentally, people need access to devices and data and the skills to use this technology.
Next, services need to be designed for the people using them and to offer choice and flexibility.
Finally, services and systems need to address the inconsistency of experience to ensure people’s needs and expectations are met across all services they interact with.
As the article states 'In an era of advanced technology, it's ironic that human connection has become increasingly strained in #healthcare.' Let these words resonate as you explore the insightful analysis.
