'I think my era of the old-fashioned club professional is dying out' – Retiring 45-year St Enodoc GC pro on the substantial changes he's witnessed https://t.co/ag1GGh0g1d
Rory McIlroy skipped the Travelers Championship to travel to the UK and play a practice round at Royal Birkdale where he was spotted by Sir Nick Faldo. He joked about it ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open:
“Birkdale was definitely just a scouting trip for The Open for sure. I would have liked to have not have it known that I was there but Faldo couldn't put his phone away, so -- (laughing.)
“I love Nick. In fairness, he's great. I had a good time with him. He walked a few holes with me.
“Then I played St Enodoc, whenever that was, last Friday. And yeah, we spent four days down in Cornwall with the Donalds and the Lawries. I had never, like I had never heard of it before, and it's I guess a top hundred course in the world. It's really cool. But that was more just for enjoyment. You're going out to play, but yeah, it's nice, you start hitting the ball off links turf again and start to play in a little bit more wind. Your links instincts come back, even if it is for fun. The stuff that you've grown up with starts to come back to you.”
Rory has finished top 10 at The Open in 3 of the last 4 years, with 8 top 10s in total, including a win in 2014. After winning back to back Masters titles to finally complete the career grand slam, it would be great to see him contend again for another major title and further cement his place as Europe’s greatest ever golfer.

If you support single sex spaces for women that include bathrooms, changing rooms & sports please Rt & like. I firmly believe biological females have that right, to personal dignity & fair sport in the Uk but across the whole world. I’m prepared to stand up & be counted. Are you?
@EnglandGolf @cgucornwall @torquaygolfclub Congrats to the whole team and a great result for the county. Hopefully one day we will have a ladies senior county tournament and we will replicate your win.
@_LFGolf If playing a medal or comp, the important thing for me is the person not the H/C. I play off 2.7 and have played for 43 years and as long as we get on will play with anyone in a comp.
@kim22mundy@BrokenhurstGC Totally agree Kim, no one should get 2 shots a hole in match play EVER!! New system rewards poor golf. I’ve played using 4 systems and this by far the worst!! FACT
@GolfMonthly 100% agree, I have played golf for 43 years, this is the 4th H/C system and it’s the worst by far. Agree with everything you say. I shot 74 gross and wasn’t even close to winning and the course adjustment now instead of CSS is a joke too. Why it’s over the whole day I don’t know
@4golfonline I’ve played competitive golf from the age of 12 and had 4 different H/C systems and this by far is the worst! As a single figure player most my life, now in comps it’s impossible to even get close to winning unless everything is scratch. Also the CCA doesn’t work. 🤷♀️
