I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.
There will not be another like the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton. Her music spoke to millions across generations, including in our family. And America is a better place because the inspiring and unifying example she set with her spirit of generosity and belonging will endure far into the future, just like her timeless music.
"One of the things about Dolly Parton that I think is really notable is how much she affirmed everybody's basic humanity. There aren't a lot of people like this anymore."
@SarahLongwell25, @Timodc, and JVL reflect on the life of Dolly Parton.
Lt. Gen. @MarkHertling on Pete Hegseth diluting the standards of the U.S. military: "It's almost like a drunken frat house approach of, 'hey, everything's okay as long as it's cool.' It ain't cool because one of these days it's going to cause somebody to die."
.@neeratanden talks with @Timodc about Trump’s $5 billion lawsuit threat against Center for American Progress:
"One of the tactics of this administration is to use fear to get people to self-censor, and we're not going to do that."

Many MAGA types have objected to the first two sentences in this post but none of them have pushed back on my claims about the gender affirming care received by the DHS Sec & the President. I should add the VP has changed his name 3 times in his lifelong attempt to become a man.
"The contrast between the 1964 Nobel recipient and the wannabe winner in the Oval Office speaks for itself. These malevolent charlatans will be unlamented discards on the ash heap of history. The memory of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. will live on."

Tim and I are demoralized by Trump’s progress in destroying the liberal order and liberal democracy at home. We’re infuriated by the collaboration of Republicans, and of elites in general. Yet Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us—we shall overcome…some day.

If Trump seizes Greenland from Denmark, does that mean that all Americans will be entitled to:
Free healthcare with no deductibles?
A free college education?
52 weeks of paid parental leave?
5 weeks of paid vacation?
Because that’s what everyone in Denmark and Greenland has.
Yes, the bit at the end is a joke, and yes, you want to watch the whole thing.
JVL, @samstein, and @EggerDC talk Trump's latest insane Greenland message:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." -MLK
As always, Dr. King's message is right on time. Today calls on all of us to hear his wisdom and put it into action.
Good morning and Happy Monday to everyone who won’t forget that trump removed MLK Jr. Day and Juneteenth from National Park free-entry days, then added his own birthday.
The disrespect is deliberate.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us, darkness cannot drive out darkness, and hate cannot drive out hate. Only light and love can do that. So today, let’s remember our responsibilities to march hand in hand, to stand peacefully with dignity and purpose in the ongoing fight for justice. To organize. To mobilize. To vote. To believe, no matter how far away the mountaintop might feel, it is in our capacity to change our communities and our country for the better.
