@Kelly_K_9 As someone who regularly interacted with Tony when I was a Coach at PCA, I will say he has a drinking problem, and hopefully this the wake up call he needs to sober up.
As a White American, Yes... You are Native.
I get the defensive reaction all the time from White Americans whenever I talk about Natives that the title ought to include them too.
I get what they're saying. They were born here, their parents were, grandparents, maybe going all the way back to the Mayflower.
Certainly White Americans can't be considered Europeans or British or Irish. Not anymore. There's famous Sopranos episode where Tony takes his crew to Italy where they meet with the local mobsters.
They very quickly and clearly come to understand that while they have real affection for the homeland, they're not really Italian anymore. They're Americans.
The land has shaped them. Same as the Anglo-Celtic peoples who arrived before them. You applied the lessons you had learned fighting against the Indians against the redcoats to great effect. The rigid ways of war preferred in the old world couldn't stand up to a hybrid Anglo-Celtic/Indian guerilla form of combat.
So I don't want anyone to think that when I say "Natives" I'm making a statement about you. I'm not. It's just by far the most generic, easily understood means of talking about the peoples and nations who were here before Columbus.
My eldest daughter and I saw #Theodysessy by Christopher Nolan yesterday in its full IMAX self. Overall grade: C
It has some great cinematic moments, some absolutely stunning cinematography and just atrocious writing and acting. The things that seemed to dominate the headlines for the last month were easily overcame; however, it had the overall feel of an undergrad senior thesis.
Matt Damon never seemed to fully embrace the script and Odysseus.
Anne Hathaway was just insufferable as Penelope
Tom Holland was very good fit for Telemachus
Elliot Page was as the young say, “cringy”.
Robert Pattinson actually did well as Antinous
The real stars of the movie, and both deserve Oscar nominations are John Leguizamo as Eumaeus and Himesh Patel as Eurylochus.
This will not be a culture defining epic film as Ten Commandments or Ben Hur, but will go down as a mediocre, Oscar farming attempt by a brilliant director. It also shows that the alleged postmodern intellectuals of Hollywood are so divorced from the “spirit” of Western civilization that they cannot engage in the spirit and ethos of one of the West’s greatest works.
"There are things in the old Book which I may not be able to explain, but I fully accept it as the infallible Word of God, and receive its teachings as inspired by the Holy Spirit." - Robert E. Lee
Hey Coach Joe, based on your posts, you remind me of Theodore Roosevelt.
A coach and teacher who lives the strenuous life, emphasizes self-reliance and character through sports and self-defense, values real experience over credentials, prioritizes family and faith, stays skeptical of media spin, and champions American principles as a proud Texan. Classic TR energy.
In my humble opinion, Christianity and Christians need to revert to their Dark Age European roots.
The Christians who defeated the Moors and took Jerusalem and prayed on one knee with a sword on their belt in soaring stone cathedrals filled with angelic music.
That was CLEARLY your high point.
Sometimes, in order to go forward, you need to go BACK.
@groldrush Teach him to defend himself regardless of the sex of his attacker, or one day you’ll be attending his funeral. Also teach him the deference of self-defense and aggression, and how to subdue his opponent with controlled prejudice.
@joerussotweets Anyone who spends the money it takes to get a BA and does so for something that you can learn through YouTube videos perhaps should not be allowed to be an “influencer”. When it comes to the arts and media nothing really makes up for experience and doing it.
