I’ve probably had around 10 kids close to passing out at a morning session in my 9 years coaching. Not necessarily doing anything unordinary. Never once did one of them say “yes” when I asked if they ate breakfast that morning. Other factors? Sure, but that’s a major one.
“You can always HEAR a good team.
The bad teams… you never hear. They don’t ever talk.
They don’t talk to each other. They don’t talk on defense, they don’t talk in transition.”
- Kelvin Sampson

Red flags 🚩 in HS football strength and conditioning:
🚩High volume Olympic lifts (5+ reps)
🚩6 a.m. workouts to build mental toughness
🚩Lack of med ball throws/weighted jumps
🚩Lack of rowing and heavy hinging
🚩Lack of split stance/single leg squatting
🚩60s Plyo circuits

🤦♂️ Are YOU still not training in-season?? Maybe that’s why you’re always hurt 🤷♂️
The 1990’s @chicagobulls were ahead of their time… Al Vermeil and staff knew the importance of maintaining strength and robustness during the grind of a season
Scottie Pippen talks here about how building and focusing on strength helps to avoid wearing out through the grind of the season… this probably helped him play over 73 games in 11 of his first 13 seasons!
Al Vermeil talks about the idea of game day lifts and how they can actually AMPLIFY performance later in the day when you play!
If you’re STILL not training during your season, figure it out
Pro tip for track coaches: if you only develop good sprinters, you’re probably good at the 100, 200, 400, 100/110h, 300h, long jump, triple jump, high jump, 4x100, and 4x400. If you only develop distance runners, you’re good at the 800, 1600, 3200, and 4x800. 10>4. It’s science.
