Texas Tech HC Joey McGuire - Program Philosophy
"Try to put everything that you're about in your program in black & white. Eliminate the gray, define who you are. Have those guys learn it, have them live it & have them defend it."

“To be successful, the thing people have in common-they realize they don’t really have a choice.
There is one way.
The right way, the hard way, there are no shortcuts."
Success doesn’t give you options.
It gives you standards and you either meet them or you don’t.
Wrong arming is one of the most important front-seven run-defense techniques because it allows a defense to control the path of the football instead of letting the offense dictate it
When a defender wrong-arms a kick-out block, he is attacking with the wrong arm/shoulder to constrict the running lane, disrupt the blocking surface, and force the ball to spill wider than the offense intended. The goal is not always to make the tackle yourself it’s to change the geometry of the run, force the ball to help, and let the rest of the defense fit off of it cleanly
You’ll see wrong-arming most often versus gap-scheme runs like Power, Counter, GT Counter, Dart, and Iso when the defense wants to spill the football to the perimeter support player. If it’s executed correctly, it prevents the offense from getting a clean kick-out, slows the runner’s path, keeps pullers from climbing cleanly to the second level, and creates cleaner scrape and force fits for linebackers and defensive backs
It’s a selfless technique that may not always show up on the stat sheet, but it can completely change the outcome of a run when the defender understands the front, knows whether the defense is spilling or boxing the ball, and plays the block with leverage, toughness, and discipline

Kobe's epic explanation of the three costs every great leader must be willing to pay. ⬇️🔥
🌲 Leadership is often lonely. The higher you climb, the fewer people can make the decisions for you. Solitude isn't a sign you're on the wrong path, it is often the cost of carrying responsibility. If you need constant approval, you'll eventually trade conviction for comfort.
⚔️ Avoiding confrontation doesn't preserve culture, it erodes it. Every difficult conversation you postpone quietly becomes permission for the behavior to continue... Leaders don't confront because they enjoy conflict. They confront because clarity is kinder than confusion, and short-term DISCOMFORT prevents long-term DYSFUNCTION.
📏 Accountability is an act of belief. Holding someone to a high standard is one of the clearest ways to communicate that you think they're capable of reaching it. The easiest leader to follow is the one who expects little. The most transformational leader is the one willing to endure uncomfortable moments so people can become who they're capable of being.
The moments that make leadership feel the loneliest are often the same moments that make your leadership matter the most. 💯
Mike Elko said, "When you get into this moment, you can’t just want it."
"You've got to pay a price to earn it." Success is earned not given.
• It's earned through hard work.
• It's earned through sacrifice.
• It's earned through daily commitment.
