4v4+4 Possessionā”ļøCrossing & FinishingšÆ
⢠Make 5 passes in the central area before you can break out into the wide areas
⢠2v2 in attacking box with wide players as crossersšÆ
⢠If there is a goal, the team who conceded swap roles with the outside players and winners stay on
Great practice with quick transitions and opportunities to work on breaking lines and working with attackers on making forward runs to join attacks at speedā½ļø
@CoachesVoice@SSPlanner@TheS_Resource@CoachingFamily@SessionShareNet
Combination Play & Finishingā½ļø
⢠Passing practice to work on different combinations between striker, winger & centre midfielder to create scoring opportunitiesšÆ
⢠Working on timing movement off the ball to arrive in space to meet the ball to finish off 1 or 2 touches
⢠Competition between both sides to see which team scores the most goalsš
Make sure that each team swaps sides so they both have opportunities to work off the left and right side of the pitchā½ļø

Ajax Y Passing Drillāāā
A simple passing practice used by clubs such as Ajax & Barcelona to work with players on their passing and receiving skills, plus much more!
ā¢Ā 3 Different variations within the video, however there are many more that you can use
⢠Work on players passing weight & accuracy and ensuring they are passing to their teammates correct foot to allow them to receive the ball comfortably and then play at speedā²ļø
⢠Working with players on their first touch so that it sets up their next action whether that is to put the ball in the correct place to then pass off their second touch or if they need to set their touch to then dribble or run with the ballšÆ

Defending Outnumberedā½ļø
ā¢Ā Defending in 2v1 and 3v2 situationsš
ā¢Ā Attacking players to work on exploiting the overload and using the free man to share the ball or use them as disguise to benefit themselves
⢠Wave practice where there is transition elements and attackers have to attack at speed but also the defenders have to show quick reactions
⢠Focus on defending principle of delaying to allow the defenders to recognise when they may be able to press and challenge for the ballš„
@CoachesVoice@SSPlanner@CoachingFamily@SessionShareNet@TheS_Resource
Finishing from Wide Areasā½ļø
⢠Working on finishing from wide areas by shooting across goal or shooting high at the near postšÆ
⢠If you score in wide areas then you get 3 points, if you score in central areas you get 1 goal
⢠Keep numbers 5v5 or lower so that all players high repetition of finishing opportunities to increase opportunities to work on intended outcomesš
@CoachesVoice@SSPlanner@CoachingFamily@SessionShareNet
Transfer Rondoā½ļø
⢠Complete a set amount of passes before transferring the ball to the other side (coaches to decide based on player ability)
⢠Player from other side can drop into central area to help keep possession or to help transfer the ball through the middle
⢠Defending team can press with as many players as they wish but they must have a strategy and be aware of players dropping into central area that they may want to mark or screen
You can do this practice with various numbers of players, it doesn't have to be 5v5 but we would suggest no lower than 3 teams of 3 players.
If you have an odd number you can have a permanent player in the central area who is someone that by working in the central it may support with their development area or give them opportunities to practice their strengths more!

Transfer Gameā½ļø
⢠Complete 4 passes before you can transfer the ball to the other side
⢠Must play into the middle player before you can transfer, they can set you back to then pass into the other sidešÆ
⢠If the defending team regain the ball they can score in the mini goal
Rotate players around so that they all get an experience of being in possession and pressing players, highlight specific players to be the transfer player in the middle which helps them work on their development or strengthsšļø

2v2+2 Possession Practiceā½ļø
⢠Simple set up to work on midfield combinations
⢠Work with 2 midfield players on positioning and how they can create space for themselves or their teammate to receive the ballšÆ
⢠Use the 4 quarters of the area to challenge players to be in opposite boxes at all times so that when one of them has gone up the other goes down and when one goes right the other goes left, then creating 2 free boxes each that they can arrive into to receive the ballā½ļø
@CoachesVoice@SSPlanner@TheS_Resource@CoachingFamily@SessionShareNet @_otlfc
Okay, we may have gone on a bit of a mad one with this post today, typing loads of our thoughts on this practice, clearly we have the blood flowing with the coaching thoughts this morning, hopefully means a good day!!š§ ā½ļø
3v3 End Zone Gameā½ļø
⢠Players score by dribbling into the end zone (1 point) or receiving a pass in the end zone (2 points)šÆ
⢠You cannot be in the end zone until the ball is in there (attackers and defenders) this makes the end zone act as an offside line and gives space for the attackers to run into
⢠3 lanes in the playing area to be a reference for the in possession team to try and have 1 player in each zone to create space to receive and create gaps between the defendersā½ļø
So many different ways to adapt this practice
⢠Size of end zone to increase/decrease the challenge level
⢠Size and shape of the playing area to allow certain types of passes and combinations to occur (straight run, diagonal pass/diagonal run, straight pass)
⢠Number of players
⢠Can restrict to only being allowed to score with passes in behind and players not allowed to dribble
Lots of work on the FAs 6 capabilities here too
⢠Timing of run to arrive in the space
⢠Timing of pass to connect with the runner and play at the correct time
⢠Scanning on the ball to see movements of teammates
⢠Technique of pass (inside, outside, laces) what foot to play with, passing on the floor, in the air, into feet or into space
⢠Movement - making a movement one way to create space on the other side to then attack that space created
⢠Slow movements to slow or stop the defender and then using a change of speed to get in behind
⢠Positioning - Starting wide to create gaps between the defenders to give space to run through and then timing the run to receive the pass through
⢠Disguise with your movement to pretend you are getting the ball to feet and then you make a run behind
⢠Disguise with your pass to pretend you are playing to one teammate but then you find another (reverse pass)
So many different ways to adapt this practice aligned to intended outcomes within this simple set up, using smaller numbers also provides players with a higher opportunity to practice the outcomes, we would suggest keeping numbers to a maximum of 5v5/6v6 within this practice.
Foundation Phase - Keep it free with their positions and allow players to move and find different spaces
Youth Development Phase & Professional Development Phase - Allow rotations between players, however provide a little more structure around players positions and what role you want them to play in the practice (passer or runner) based on what they are working on, what their strengths are and what position they play.

Transfer Gameā½ļø
ā¢Ā Transfer the ball from on area to the other by combining with the central player
⢠Defending players can press with how many they like and can step into the central area to make it harder for the central player to transfer the ball from one side to the otheršÆ
⢠If the defending team win the ball they can score in the mini goalsš„
⢠Work with your players on when to risk or retain possession, creating new angles to help teammates on the ball and recognising when to play 1 or 2 touches or when to stay on the ball to draw in opponentsā½ļø
