The unweighting phase is one of the most overlooked and important phases of the CMJ! Your ability to unweight allows for greater forces to be generated.
A healthy client should be able to reach -1.2 m/s for “Peak Negative Velocity.”
The Dynamic Strength Index (DSI) is a great resource for coaches to understand the force capabilities of an athlete, and how well they can access those forces in a short time frame (incredibly important for sport).

This is a realistic example of diff. MPH between ath. & how it can look on the field. If your ath. are fatigued and their top speed drops 2mph, that could be the difference in a break away, or getting caught…separation from a defender, or toe to toe.

Things I was told as an athlete that I’d never tell my athletes
- Avoid weights in-season
- Run multiple miles to get in shape
- Avoid carbs to lean out
- Stretch endlessly to move better
- Only lift high reps/low weight
