Governor Abbott directed the PUC and ERCOT to protect Texans from footing the bill for data centers.
His plan requires data centers to cover their own infrastructure costs, lowers transmission costs for residents, and safeguards Texas communities and natural resources.
@clawrence@datarade Geez, the Texas oil and gas industry believes renewables suppress electricity prices which is why they uniformly opposed anti-renewable legislation last TX legislative session.
A RMI methodology for correcting invalid self-reported oil and gas data finds that, in Texas, significantly more methane is wasted than is currently recorded — and this may be common practice elsewhere. https://t.co/FSAReJKngc
@johnarnold And why seniors who came to digital/cell phones later in life are such easy targets. Anyone with elderly parents struggles to keep them safe from this.
As global buyers demand verifiable, low-methane gas, rolling back @EPA reporting puts Texas at risk.
"If methane emissions are no longer reported…it makes the Texas industry less competitive," EDF's @ColinLeyden told @TexasTribune. https://t.co/zMKGHmMcjf
@SenWhitehouse This is also why the majority of the TX oil and gas industry joined efforts to defeat really bad anti-renewable legislation (sponsored by a smaller faction of the o&g industry) in TX. Turns out most of the industry likes cheap electricity too.
@SheDrills Agree this is a major issue. It's been quite the business model for the large capitalized producers. Many states are exploring reforms. Texas' inactive well count (about 120K) represents $13b in closure/remediation liability. Vast majority inactive for over 5yrs.
Texas industry groups hoping to claim credit for New Mexico's #methane progress should take a closer look.
@MethaneSAT data show methane intensity on the New Mexico side of the Permian is half that of Texas, despite NM doubling production since 2020. https://t.co/KlMvszsGPp
The rise in Texas’ orphan well count beyond 10,000 is "a harbinger of what could be very painful times ahead,” EDF’s Adam Peltz tells @HoustonChron. Orphan wells threaten the environment and communities and create financial strain for Texans. More:
