what I've learned that can help me as a future healthcare professional is to remain compassionate and understanding with those who may not have the resources to eat healthier or are overweight. Also how to work with the dietician to better help the patient. @beh353#beh353
This relates to Emma's part of the lecture on shaming foods and our relationship with them. It's okay to have a balance and have food in moderation. Our own shaming of food or ourselves for eating it may be more unhealthy than eating that food once or twice.@beh353#beh353
A food containing sugar doesn’t make it “unhealthy” - it might have different nutritional make up than another food, but we eat foods with lots of different nutritional values all the time and those different foods, and a lot of other things influence health.
@nakuci43627@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 I agree, it really opened my eyes to how our categorization of foods impacts the way we see it and our relationship with it. We tend to shame foods that are really not that bad, in moderation.
@EmmaDArpinoRD Thank you for such an informative lecture! I was referring to myself as being "addicted" to sugary foods/treats. You've helped me rethink that term and think deeply about my relationship with it instead. @beh353#beh353
@Samanthabr419@beh353 I completely agree and also find it so sad that part of our healthcare system has failed these people, all due to a misunderstood perspective the may have of them.
The reading on obesity in class said that larger women tend to struggle more in finding jobs. As a healthcare professional knowing this information can help me understand why my patients' living conditions are not as great or why they may be struggling financially.#beh353@beh353
I chose https://t.co/4xL75j56Tq because it can serve as a helpful tool for parents who may use food in ways other than to satisfy real hunger in their children, which in most cases, might cause pediatric obesity/overweight or an unhealthy relationship with food. #beh353@beh353
As a pasta lover, i think this is a great way to enhance pasta and other Italian foods so they will become healthier and come with more nutritional benefits. @beh353#beh353
Healthier Twists on Classic Italian Cuisine. Love Italian cuisine but aiming for healthier eating? Good news! With a focus on fresh ingredients, you can make healthier swaps in classic dishes without losing the rich flavors. #OurMobb https://t.co/osdfYZWSEc
@AishHannahA@beh353 This makes a lot of sense, especially now with the food prices. Those living in poverty can't afford to eat as healthy in this economy, and parents aren't going to let their kids starve either. So they will do the next best thing, less healthy foods.
I did not know that those drinking diet soft drinks have a higher BMI than those drinking regular soft drinks. instead of substituting sodas for diet ones, I'll cut them out completely to better my diet, now knowing that "diet" cokes aren't much "healthier". @beh353#beh353
I chose to repost this because I find it fascinating how much our diets actually matter for every single part of our bodies and how little importance most people give to it, referring also to myself. @beh353#beh353
@NganNguyen1054@beh353 I can totally relate. its hard to even have the motivation to want to cook at the end of a long school day. Especially since healthier meals are more time consuming to make.
i relate to the healthful eating barrier of not having enough time to plan, cook, etc. With school and work, it's so hard to always find the time to buy healthy ingredients and make healthy meals so its easier to get something quick that will do the job. @beh353@beh353
I think https://t.co/IoSjnz53W1 is a high-quality article because it links several sources as well as an observational study. it's about cutting down on sugary drinks @beh353#beh353
I usually eat these oatmeals in the morning but it's kind of surprising the amount of sodium and sugar it has. This led me to make overnight oats instead. @beh353#beh353
