History matters – a century after insulin’s discovery, we’re going backwards - Healthy Debate
For the record: Big Pharma exploits people who need insulin, charging them a high price for a medicine they would and do die without. @adriandix https://t.co/njAEuLJFwU
Strongly worded statements aren’t enough. Canadian were beaten, deprived of essentials, subjected to appalling conditions by Israeli officials—yet Canada refuses to ramp up real, meaningful diplomatic pressure. Ottawa must demand true accountability

The only political Leader in Canada addressing Israeli War Crimes !!
(other @NDP MPs doing good work highlighting @Israel hyper-aggression and Genocide)
@MarkJCarney
Carney is the first PM to ever cobble together a majority through floor crossing. Power was gained with backroom deals, not the ballot box. Today I introduced Bill C-278 to require MPs earn voter consent before switching parties. If your reasons are valid, defend them to voters.
NDP at 16% nationally. Almost 3x the election and growing momentum…
Focussing on everyday problems facing working people and taking practical, principled and progressive positions is resonating with Canadians.
Reporter of China State Television CGTN, broadcasting in front of Gaza Shifa Hospital:
"I saw with my own eyes that there were at least 10 Palestinian children under the age of 5 without heads."
Avi Lewis: "Leadership that brings back internationalism, that fights imperialism, that says Canada must come to the defence of Cuba and use our place on the world stage to fight for a free Palestine. Leadership that never apologizes for defending the most vulnerable and excoriating the most powerful. That's the kind of leadership that I hope to deliver."
The Liberals will spend 5% of Canada's GDP on defence. That's a greater share than the US spends to maintain over 800 military bases and engage in foreign wars. The PBO estimates this target will cost Canadian taxpayers $159 billion a year. How do the Liberals plan to pay for it?
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Mister Guilbeault. Steven Guilbeault gave “activist” cred to a genocidal and ecocidal Liberal government.
If Guilbeault cared about Palestinian rights he would have left the Liberals long ago. Instead, he was in the cabinet of a government that enabled Israel’s holocaust in Gaza.
The only public statement Guilbeault seems to have made regarding the conflict came soon after Hamas’ October 7 assault. On X he posted, “Canada condemns the violent terrorist attacks on Israel. Full stop.” It linked to a message from the prime minister noting, “Canada strongly condemns the current terrorist attacks against Israel. These acts of violence are completely unacceptable. We stand with Israel and fully support its right to defend itself.”
As Israel “defended itself” by killing 100 000 Palestinians in Gaza, Guilbeault stayed mum. An individual who said I “came into politics so I could continue to be an activist” ignored the many thousands who marched in his riding and a Laurier—Sainte-Marie Palestine solidarity group’s repeated appeals to support a long-term ceasefire and two-way arms embargo. Activists asked Guilbeault to raise his voice against Israel’s siege of Gaza and Canada’s complicity in Israel’s occupation, organizing multiple protests and town halls focused on the environment minister’s complicity in genocide. But he failed to even meet with organizers.
On a dozen occasions I asked my MP about his failure to heed community groups repeated requests to back an arms embargo or if Israel was committing “ecocide” in Gaza or if he thought Canadians fighting in Gaza should be pursued under Canada’s War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Act. He ignored me. The progressive “activist” was undoubtedly complicit in genocide.
Guilbeault was also complicit in climate crimes. As environment minister in 2022 he approved the Baie du Nord offshore oil project. That project could lead to the extraction of up to 1 billion new barrels of oil amidst a deepening climate crisis. At a July 2023 press event activist Laurel Thompson unfurled a climate sign next to Guilbeault while I yelled from the back of the room “the world is on fire. Shut the tar sands down or resign”.
Instead of resigning over Canada’s ‘climate bomb’, the activist environment minister granted oil and gas companies extra time to meet greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets. Guilbeault was also minister in a government that spent $30 billion on the tar sands enabling Trans Mountain pipeline.
During his time in cabinet the federal government plowed large sums into free bridges and roads as well as other climate exacerbating projects. They also exempted the Department of National Defence, which emits over half of federal government GHGs, from emissions reduction targets.
Despite claiming to take the climate crisis seriously, the Trudeau/Guilbeault cabinet failed to put the country on track to meet even dangerously insufficient targets for reducing GHG emissions. With among the highest per capita emissions, Canadian GHG emissions barely budged during the Trudeau government’s time in office.
Steven Guilbeault was part of ecocidal and genocidal Liberal governments for far too long.
BREAKING: Israel dismisses IDF top lawyer Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi for leaking video of Israeli soldiers raping Palestinian.
Minister of Defense of Israel Israel Katz threatens her with 'imprisonment for many years" & calls her actions "a grave blood libel against heroic IDF fighters."
Rape victim suffered ruptured intestine, severe injury to anus, lungs & broken ribs.
Israelis rioted for the right to rape, ministers defended rapists and one rapist became a TV celebrity. All charges were dropped.
This is Israel
Congrats to Israel, they killed another peace deal. We were at 95% done. After Puppet Trump talked to Netanyahu, he came out with new completely unrealistic demands:
1. Israel doesn't have to abide by the peace deal and can keep attacking Lebanon. So, only a ceasefire for one side.
2. We have to take out all the enriched uranium on day one, not in the second stage.
3. All Middle Eastern countries have to betray the Palestinians and sign Abraham Accords to normalize relations with Israel without ending the occupation.
These are purposely impossible, so that the war continues. And Israel is bombing Lebanon heavily now to try to reignite the war.
They are not our allies, Israel is a terrorist government which has captured our government and media. They're using it to drive permanent war that Americans are forced to pay for.
On Wednesday the House of Commons is debating my @NDP Bill C-247 that seeks to protect workers' right to strike.
Striking is a fundamental workers' right that has brought tremendous victories like maternity leave, the eight hour workday, and fair living wages.
Will this Liberal government support my bill to protect workers' rights? Or will they keep backsliding on workers' rights while propping up their billionaire buddies?
Carney’s Liberals are directly attacking workers’ free collective bargaining rights in Canada. Poorly publicized, 30 day “consultation” is a sneaky ruse to erode union rights.
You can’t “build, baby build” by weakening labour. https://t.co/buADpbBM9n
The Liberals’ pipeline is dividing Canada—and causing some Liberal MPs to run for the hills.
And while Carney doubles down on new fossil fuel projects, he’s backsliding on the rights of Indigenous peoples while lining the pockets of the billionaire class, all while communities suffer from global price shocks.
That’s why I and my @NDP colleague @GordJohns wrote to the Liberal Environment Minister to make clear: we will not accept the Prime Minister’s failure to address the climate crisis and protect all those endangered by it.
It is beyond time for Canada to stand up to Israel and the war crimes, violence, and oppression of the Netanyahu government.
Israel is not our ally, Israel is not any country’s ally.
The attacks and abuse of our Canadian citizens, is showing what many have been saying for years: this political regime is violent and must be stopped.
I hope the federal government takes the strongest political stance possible against the current Israeli government, not just for the sake of our detained citizens and all those suffering in the Middle East, but for the whole world which is being destabilized by this violent regime.
Memo to the global community: Canada has officially abandoned climate action.
PM Carney has systematically dismantled all the insufficient policy we had in place.
A clear-eyed and devastating piece by my brother, @SethDKlein.
