Washington is drifting toward a dangerous outcome. If Congress fails to deliver the defense funding and investments needed this year, America won't just lose time, we'll lose momentum at one of the most consequential moments for our national security in decades.

It would weaken our hand with Iran just as the regime is testing America's resolve. It would leave more than 150,000 forward-deployed American troops operating under greater uncertainty. It would freeze billions of dollars in private investment that's finally rebuilding our defense, delaying new factories, slowing weapons production, and putting next-generation defense technologies on hold. And it would tell our allies, many of whom have stepped up because we've asked them to, that America may not be prepared to lead.

Meanwhile, China isn't slowing down. Russia isn't slowing down. Iran isn't slowing down. Our adversaries will use every day of American dysfunction to widen the gap.

We are on the verge of the most significant defense industrial revival in a generation. We will either build on that historic momentum, or walk off the cliff into the oblivion of a Second Last Supper.

Military readiness depends on giving our servicemembers the tools to do their jobs, not forcing them to wait on unnecessary bureaucracy.

Gen. Gering confirmed that Marines have waited 8 months to repair a vehicle component they could have fixed themselves in 4 hours if they had access to the necessary repair data. Marines also built a communications mast for $10 that outperformed a contractor version costing $5,644.

We already own this equipment. Our Marines should be trusted to maintain it whenever possible, not forced to wait on contractors who control the repair information.

That’s why @RepGoodlander and I introduced an amendment requiring contractors to provide the repair data our military needs unless they can demonstrate a legitimate reason not to. It passed @HASCRepublicans by voice, with bipartisan support.

This is about military readiness, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and ensuring our servicemembers have what they need to accomplish the mission. It’s now part of the House NDAA awaiting a floor vote.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced plans to let Americans take passport photos from home using a phone or laptop camera, instead of going to CVS, Walgreens, or another photo service.
