There is no way to spin this here. This is a bloodbath in Virginia. There were so many races that we knew would be decided by only a point or two, and they're all breaking for Democrats.
It's over.
@PamBondiGOTTAgo@matthewstoller Wut?! This is 1000x worse. You're comparing the President directly picking the buyer in an $80 billion deal to the FCC expediting reviews in a $400 million one.... It's like comparing the Lufthansa heist to an overdue library book.
@byHeatherLong@andrewvandam Another factor to consider: the demand side. Historic urban areas are scarce and can't be built anymore en masse, unlike sprawl. Many were torn down. But less in areas with restrictive zoning. Many ppl want to live in historic areas. They also tend to be more vibrant.
@byHeatherLong@andrewvandam SF is 6x denser than Phoenix
Seattle is 7x denser than Charleston
LA is 4x denser than Atlanta
It's logical that high density (ie more intensive existing development) drives desire/need for more restrictive zoning. And maybe high density + more demand drives higher price gains.
The conservation job market is collapsing.
We found that non-federal conservation jobs have declined nearly 30% since March, 2025

A secondary objective of the Ds in the shutdown -and acknowledged by them but not promoted due to wonkiness - is to rein in the impoundments and rescissions - ie Trump not spending budgeted money - which has been a huge underreported issue for the country.
The bigger thing, though, is that I'm not sure what Democrats' strategic objectives really are, beyond saving Schumer's job/boosting base morale. Tactially, it seems to be going pretty good! But tactics are not strategy.
@NateSilver538 Even if it's a political draw, there's the secondary benefit that the shutdown majorly elevates healthcare cuts as a political issue that everyone is talking about.
