What's happening at the CDC should frighten every American
Regardless of whether you are MAGA, MAHA, neither, or don't give a damn about labels or politics.
It's unclear whether the CDC director—confirmed just weeks ago—has been fired or not. Absolute shitshow.
And incredible career professionals resigned tonight, sounding a massive alarm.
This is pure chaos that leaves the country unprepared.
Imagine cases of Ebola in the U.S. right now?
We would be an absolute mess.
It's easy to tune this all out, to celebrate what you might see as 'cleaning house', or just not care what's happening.
But I promise you, when confronted with the next serious health threat, we will quickly see everything we've lost.
We will regret this. I promise, we will regret this.
People really love to rewrite history.
Schools began phased return June 2020, with all back by Sept.
‘Eat Out to Help Out’ was Aug 2020, people were literally encouraged into restaurants.
Nightclubs reopened July 19th 2021.
Hardly the endless, oppressive lockdown cited here.
I told Beth I felt sort of pre-dead: I’d given up all my goals for life, every purpose I’d organized myself around, every expectation that used to ground me. And yet I was still alive. So what was left, with all of that gone? What is it to live, pre-dead? https://t.co/oAWJFxpYnY
“Living with #MECFS is like holding what has no meaning.”
@julierehmeyer’s new piece about illness and grief for her friend Beth Mazur is searing and unforgettable. I’m better today, but when I was sickest, this paragraph was my life:

I want everyone to understand the impossible scale of Israel’s slaughter. Every single family killed should be a story in its own right, should be multiple articles and TV news reports. Consider how many hours, months, years it would take to give each family in Gaza the news coverage they deserve. My god.
"You have no idea that in reality you have no actual rights over your own family life."
Thanks @IsabellaMcraeWas for covering the stories of some of the thousands of families kept apart or exiled as a result of the UK's migration rules.

@GeorgeMonbiot@peterjukes blowing the dust off this old thread because we need to focus on what Farage is in simple terms. The stream of bullshit and hate masks a very simple strategy.
The science has not failed.
What’s failed is the political will to protect.
The understanding that vaccines are not a luxury, they’re infrastructure.
That trust is not optional, it’s strategic.
That public health is not a cost, it’s a national security asset.

Vaccination rates among kindergartners are collapsing in entire states.
Some schools have <70% MMR coverage.
The threshold for herd immunity? 95%.
We’re not slipping.
We’ve already fallen off the cliff.

can someone inform @RachelReevesMP that disabled adults aren’t children who want pocket money for frivolous things, but are in fact adults who need to pay rent/buy food/access healthcare? infantilising us at the same time you cut support to basic human rights isn’t a great look
They coordinated with the Red Cross. They went in to save lives. Israel executed all 16 of them—ambulance crews, first responders—then buried their bodies & destroyed their vehicles. This isn’t self-defense. This is a war crime. A massacre. And the world is still silent.
@Naomi_D_Harvey@IrishEcocritic I got accosted by the man next to me at a concert recently, demanding to know why I was masked. “Are you sick?” “No, immunocompromised.” And treated him to an expressionless gaze. (If you’re that concerned about getting sick at a concert, guess what your best option is, champ 🙄)
comparing disabled people (a group very famously slaughtered en masse by the nazis) to hitler while the government brings in sweeping benefit cuts is certainly… a choice 😳
Our NIH grant to discover coronavirus antiviral meds was terminated today.
With this grant, we had developed a better SARSCoV2 inhibitor than Paxlovid, and we recently discovered an improved drug that looks better than Pfizer's own second-generation inhibitor.
