Today we rally with @JulieMenin before hearing pivotal testimony on #HACPA, legislation that will make NYC the first city in the nation to create an office of healthcare accountability to protect consumers from unfair hospital pricing. We stand with her!

The fear of unaffordable healthcare and hospital prices is real. But it doesn't have to be that way.
It’s time to raise our voices and urge the Mayor and City Council to pass #HACPA into law. #AffordableHospitalsNOW
Hospital prices have been increasing rapidly and now represents the single biggest escalator of healthcare costs.
We are proud to stand alongside our partners @JulieMenin, @CMMercedesCD46, and @Lynn4NYC in support of #HACPA!
Big Pharma will still charge and get paid hundreds for it, the consumer may not may at the counter, but they pay in premium, lost wages crowded out by healthcare costs, and higher taxes.
🔊Listen to this entire fantastic story from @CoraOpsahl about how she took on predatory hospitals and delivered a HISTORIC victory for @32BJSEIU members by demanding price transparency. #HAC2023@FamiliesUSA
It’s necessary for employers to understand their data. Knowing where and what you spend your healthcare dollars on is the first step in tackling the rising cost of healthcare. -- @32BJSEIU's @CoraOpsahl#HBCHPresents#pricetransparency
Here’s a great example where #consolidation impacts patients. People shouldn’t have to research their care to ensure they are getting high quality care at an #affordablecost
This experience was so outrageous that I overlooked one of the worst parts: this AmSurg center is billing facility fees! The whole benefit to patients of AmSurg centers is that they generally don’t bill facility fees and are lower cost
We looked at 21 private nonprofit general hospitals in NYC in 2019. In total, they received about $1.5 billion in tax breaks but spent only $1.1 billion on meaningful community benefits.
Fantastic report from the @lowninstitute out today:
Nearly all NYC hospitals are tax-exempt & they received $1.5 billion in tax breaks in 2019. They only spent $1.1 billion on meaningful community benefit, which includes patient financial assistance.

“The #HEALAct is only the 1st step in lowering the Hospital prices & overhauling our healthcare system. In Queens, we’ve lost 5 hospitals in the past 20 years. So, there’s a lot more to do & I’m so proud to be standing with the @C4AH_NY to get this work done.”
