I for one would like to applaud Grace’s use of “qua” here. I was only saying to Tarquin the other day how clever she is - and how she has a real knack for connecting with ordinary working people in places like Shoreditch and Hoxton.
It annoys me when people use the word ‘objective’ to mean ‘real’ - IMO an objective interpretation is just one that refers to objects qua objects, rather than objects qua the product of social relations. Like, social relations aren’t any less ‘real’ than matter.
It’s true. She would have gone down a storm in the Working Men’s Club I visited in Byker a few months ago. They couldn’t get enough of me in there, particularly my suggestion of adopting a gender neutral name for the venue.
