@bstinger4 Canada has a quota like this on visual media as well. Canadian Cartoon channels must show a good percentage of Canada made cartoons as well which sometimes pushes subpar media in the limelight. If the music is good, it should be played, regardless of origin. #mus2011
@CassandraGaard I feel we should celebrate Canadian made media, I think a quota adds nothing to it. I find Canadian media has no significant difference compared to the US, as much as some people want there to be #mus2011
I don’t believe there should be a quota for Canadian content. As much as many Canadians try to denounce it, we are very similar to our neighbours of the US. I personally feel in the music industry there is not distinct “Canadian” type of content. #MUS2011
Wald’s assessment is correct. Preferring recordings is common now a days because they’re accessible on phone, computer or radio. While concerts are great they only come every now and then. If that was your only way to listening you wouldn’t listen to much music #MUS2011
@KatieMUN12 Cover bands are definitely nice to listen to, I dunno if it’s elitist to say but the original in my mind will always be better. Covers are often not as accessible as the originals on say streaming services which most people use now a days. #mus2011
@ZacharyNash7 I agree with you on the best versions statement. Not to diss concerts but sometimes they have sound problems or slight changes in the song that really throw me off. #MUS2011
Schlock rock is very much cultural theft. It’s hard to see original context and themes being painted over and act like it’s no big deal. But knowing how these ideas were taken we can appreciate the original much more. #mus2011
@KatieMUN12 I should've read through the other tweets for this week before submitting mine because I pretty much said the same thing as you about uniqueness. #MUS2011
Having a unique sound in music is very important, especially when your genre is very saturated. That's why I think Ray changed his voice up from others. When listening to his music before writing this, I recognized his voice before his name. #MUS2011
@_mforsyth @emmaboddie I think streaming is fine. I feel like most artists who do let their music stream aren’t exactly hurting on money. I mentioned Hoodie Allen, he prefers people to stream his music because it reaches more people, which brings in more ticket sales in his eyes.
@emmaboddie I am all for streaming services, but I can understand the argument of how they can potentially hurt the artist revenue wise. I appreciate artists like Hoodie Allen who link places to freely listen to his new album before places you can buy it. #MUS2011
@WaddenNeil These services have also created obscure genres of music as well. A guilt pleasure of mine is a genre of Japanese rappers rapping over 60s American Jazz #MUS2011
Having music on the go has certainly changed my life for the better. During my teenage years, I listened to music a lot during times of anxiety and stress. Without an MP3 on me I don't think I'd be able to handle anxiety as well as I did. #MUS2011
One Artist that comes to mind that I think changed their sound for the better is Tyler The Creator. While his aggressive music was enjoyed, I think his relaxed sound from Flower boy and his new album Igor are much better.
One false need I see is that artists need to stay in one genre their whole career. This limits to what they can do. I'm always excited when an artist changes their sound for an album or for life. #MUS2011
