@ian4downton Councils can't afford it, nor do they have the skills to be property developers. In the 60s/70s they had dedicated planning and architecture depts, now nothing. We should reverse that, but it's a BIG ask.
@lf_p If the main road and the side road throat are being narrowed then it's likely that the corner radius no longer works. I'd have to do a swept path to check, but it looks like the existing radius would force the nose of a truck into the cycle lane.
@MaCgroupUK@ClarkeMicah The number of bike lanes in London that would pass muster in NL is tiny by comparison. They're barely connected, with loads of orphan sections or "lanes to nowhere" Most junctions still poorly designed.
@DomRants_ The Shuttle trains are huge, even bigger than regular continental freight trains. They're entirely captive to the tunnel and the terminals. Extending would have made HS1 so much more expensive.
@hunterx11@fde_enthusiast7 The air would be compressed by water rising up inside the bell. Dives were short, limited by the amount of air in the bell, so I don't know how bad the bends could have been.
@PollyPorridge Wife and I went to see a very good dance adaptation of Streetcar at Sadlers Wells a couple of years ago. Really really good. Couldn't stop whispering the Simpsons lines back and forth between us the whole time. Goddamn mind virus.
@K_Niemietz@TfL There are two eastern branches of the district line. There are two western branches, BUT, they have to share tracks with the Circle. Therefore some trains have to terminate at HSK, or there'd be no room for Circle line trains.
@Tygget When you see astronauts moving around the ISS, they make light contact with their hands, as close to their CoG as possible. Magboots mean levering your whole body over with every step. Murder on the ankles I bet.
@wheelreinvent@Llib7 The public realm is poorly defined. No street front to "own" the space. Not private, not public, no activity at ground floor. The same density in courtyard blocks would be far nicer to live in and pass through.
