Found an old friend yesterday in the corn fields of Luzon, Philippines. Philippine Downy Mildew- Peronospora philippeninsis. Definitely a disease our corn growers in the USA don’t need. Truly an impressive pathogen and disease. UGA Extension
And just like that..southern corn rust found and confirmed in SE Georgia, Wayne County this afternoon. Early-planted corn (R3-R4 stage). This is first confirmation of southern rust in GA in 2022. This early find indicates much of the corn in south GA is at risk. UGA Extension.
