@VanIsleStuartD@fin0cchi0 I think its fair to give Mulroney credit for maiming VIA even as successive governments continued the pattern of cuts + bad policy. Chretien reduced funding and privatized CN, which affected service quality as VIA had to yield to freight on shared tracks. Lots of blame to share.
@ChrisP28901467@jen_keesmaat Sure, but keep in mind Seoul has 3x the population of Toronto and that gap widens when you compare the regional/metro areas. We can and should have better but we don't have the density to justify subways to Oshawa or Kitchener - areas better served by regional rail.
@pr_tanner@AlexanderGlista GO has bike coaches to address a similar issue on Kitchener line, and they could commission more vehicles to accommodate large luggage/more storage on certain routes/trips if there was demand and will.
@snortnutmeg@donnelly_b Hopefully this talk of adding signal priority, increasing speeds and limiting left turns on street car routes will finally unlock its potential. Too often the trains sit at intersections with dozens packed in, waiting for 1-2 cars to turn before they can trundle along.
