I wish everyone celebrating the #LunarNewYear joy, good health, and prosperity.
May this Year of the Snake bring wisdom, energy, and strength to uphold human dignity and foster peace around the world.
I received this message from a former colleague in Afghanistan yesterday.
She said I could share it.
It tells a powerful story...
"We are the generation born into war, raised by it. We never knew the joy of a carefree childhood, always burdened by hardship. Our dreams of growing up were overshadowed by the realities of survival. Now, we are women in this country, punished for the very fact of our existence. We don't understand what sin we've committed, what wrong we've done. We yearn for a world where this pain ends, where we can breathe freely, like women in other parts of the world. We long to experience the simple joys of life – a heart that dances with laughter, not sorrow. We want to swim in open waters, not fear every step. We want to go to the horse races, not be held back by the shackles of fear. Before my life ends, I hope to witness the dawn of freedom, to see a world where women like me can finally live without fear, without burden."
Today is #EarthDay.
There is no greater threat facing humanity than the climate and environmental crises and within the IFRC, there is no greater priority.
By protecting nature, we are protecting lives.
Let's protect our planet.
@jagan_chapagain Technically a good initiative but lot surprising to learn that IFRC is taking the help of a religion in its philanthropy. Perhaps it was the financial reason that forced to adopt such an initiative. Nevertheless, it's a clear deviation from the founding principles. Unfortunate.
In Nepal today, where 4 months ago, an earthquake struck Karnali Province.
The impact goes on - in where people live, their livelihoods, access to education, and in memories of trauma.
So proud of what @NepalRedCross has done with @ifrc and partners to help people recover.
Another heartbreaking loss.
Fayez As'ad Mohammad Muammar, a paramedic at the Rafah ambulance center of @PalestineRCS, tragically lost his life when his family's home was hit in the eastern part of Rafah governorate.
On behalf of the IFRC, we express our profound sadness and extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and our colleagues at Palestine Red Crescent.
@KateForbes_IFRC@PujaKoirala@ifrc Congratulations and I do hope, IFRC might enhance the capacity of NS to deliver services in disaster by your leadership.
RIP - Mingmar Sherpa, who climbed the world's highest peak Mount Everest & hoisted the Red Cross flag on 16 May 2023. He also hoisted the Red Cross flag on Mount K2 & Mount Cho Oyu.
He recently died while climbing Shishapangma Peak.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.
@brb1954 अतिवादी भएका होइनन बरु अरूको अतिक्रमण बिरुध्द बोल्ने जमर्को गरेका हुन। खासमा 90% हिन्दु समुदायलाई अतिक्रमण गर्न stop हुनुपर्छ समस्या स्वत समाधान हुन्छ। stop to change the religion of people by using money.
Salute to SERV volunteers’ dedication, sincerity, and honest reporting. The Indian Red Cross Mandi District Branch has led from the front by providing First Aid and Cooked Food for the flood-affected population In Himachal Pradesh.
People first - humanitarian needs of impacted communities are our priorities as @RedCrescent, @SYRedCrescent and @ifrc respond to the devastation in Syria and Türkiye.
Saddest moments when humanitarians pay the ultimate price: In 2022, 9 Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers/staff have been killed while on duty. They were killed in Iran, Somalia, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Sudan and Mali. 6 killed by violence/conflict, 3 in accidents🙏
On 8 Aug. 2022, Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) received 1300 sets of Dignity Kits and 1300 sets of Hygiene Kits estimating Rs. 6 million to assist in humanitarian operation. The kits handed over to NRCS by British Red Cross for emergency preparedness and response to disaster.
I am proud of all we achieved at our Red Cross Red Crescent Statutory meetings #RCRC22.
They were a real success thanks to @IFRC staff & volunteers.
Volunteering is at the heart of our Movement. Thanks to Amine, a volunteer, for this behind-the-scenes video #ThanksVolunteers
Very good to meet the Youth Core Group of Nepal Red Cross together other Red Cross Youth. For the coming days, they will be designing a national Youth campaign across #Nepal. This supported by #IFRC. #NRCS
