Author: U THRIVE: How to Succeed in College (and Life). Faculty @NYU teaching "The Science of Happiness." Exploring happiness, success, and excellence for all!
Feeling incredibly grateful for a job I love and the amazing opportunities it brings. Inspired this week by the brilliant @DanLernerTweets, and @VisionsofaChamp as we explored the science of success and happiness.
Perfection isn’t just impossible. It’s a counterproductive goal.
Perfectionists are more likely to burn out and less likely to embrace new challenges.
Success depends on high standards, not being flawless. The target is not perfection—it's excellence.

Maya Angelou represents the pinnacle of light, hope, heart, beauty and possibility. This brings happy tears to my eyes 🥲❤️ (and it looks like I’ll be collecting coins again ☺️.) https://t.co/Pjg8JI5JHi
@drdantomasulo@TeachersCollege I can't think of a more deserving person to be honored with this award my wonderful friend (and apparently neither could the committee) -- huzzah huzzah, hip hip, and very hearty maazel!!!
@jerclifton Come on Clifton, haven’t you heard of psychomarketingology? It’s a combination of dumbdownonomy and Igottadoatedtalkology. Yeesh. Get with the times, would ya.
@sbkaufman A decade ago while in grad school exploring the interplay of expert development and well-being, I reached out to Anders Erickson. His response: “I will probably learn more from you than you will from me.” His humble, kind generosity was a lesson that I will never forget ❤️.

If you’re lonely right now know you are not alone.

@sbkaufman “Daniel, you don’t have to be the best — just do what you love and be the best that you can be.” (It took me about 20 years to get it through my thick skull...and I still have to remind myself of it with some frequency 🥰😳🥰.)
The purpose of a university is not to train skills. It's to promote the pursuit of knowledge.
Higher education exists to stoke curiosity, fuel discovery, foster debate, encourage critical thinking, and develop the next generation into more sophisticated learners.
