@2Lewski Thank you for your brief note a few months back about interning at the National Air and Space Museum. I followed up and got selected. I'm looking forward to the opportunity all based on your article.
@FlyingMagazine Got my MS in v-tail aero. The cos^2 rule works for c/l-mounted tails. An aero text margin note in AF Museum files says the v-tail P-63 yaw stability degraded w/flaps down. True for all powered v-tails. Hence they are better on gliders. BTW, Rudlicki's bird has a great back story.
@themerryonion I assume the gov't document quoted directly from the primary source (the reports from the aero squadron). If I just want to use the numbers w/no interpretation, is the document primary? If I want to use the numbers & the interpretation, can it be both at the same time? #H1103
Primary? Secondary? Both? I have a 1917 report to Congress that uses info from the Punitive Expedition to show how bad things went for the 1st Aero Squadron. I want to use the data it quotes. How do I categorize this one? #H1103
@CNMBrandon @CNMsuncats I took this last year. Good course with a lot of neat information. It helped me appreciate past & present struggles in NM. It also gave me something to talk with my barber about! At the time, the text was only available on line. I would have liked something on my shelf. #H1103
@jhrodarte Looking at it again, I would exclude "selfish and" in order to make the contrasting positions more succinct. But then, I tend to strike words only to add them or others back in. #H1103
@jhrodarte This strikes me as a yes/no question with not much room for uncertainty. Maybe, "Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI: selfish and spiritually corrupt or a church leader in the mold of St. Peter?" #H1103
@Jadon11034860 I could see how this question could be answered with Google. Exploring that person's reasons for the massacre would be broader, a bit psychological, but still do-able. "How did circumstances and events drive Al Capone to order the St. Valentine's Day massacre of 1929? #H1103
Here's another poser: do I credit a memoir that has a co-author as a primary or secondary source? The section I'm interested in has a lot of first-hand description of events that took place. #H1103
For a quote from a primary source that's given in a secondary source, do I credit that quote as being from the primary source or do I say something like, "From (primary source) as quoted in (secondary source)"? Doing the first does imply an unverified level of trust. #H1103
@CNMBrandon From the perspective of getting a degree, your advisor should tell you. From the POV of making a living writing articles, the editors of the magazines you sent your article to will tell you. Will this be part of HIST 2510, "Uses of History"? #H1103
@_Douglas_K_ "not know enough" - how do you define "enough" & then measure it? Would you be looking at how history is taught/the emphasis given to the war in school history books/popular entertainment as a source of cultural history? May need to 1st show how WWI is relevant to today. #H1103
@CNMBrandon @Jadon11034860 You will know for sure if the question is too broad if your research floods you with references and too narrow if there's only virga - rain that evaporates before it hits the ground! :) #H1103
@BrownyVela Take a look at https://t.co/NR8MqvhrEL He learned guitar playing/making from his father and there may be an oral history. Their work focuses on classical guitars & flamenco. His web page shows where he plays during the week, so you could catch him there between sets. #H1103
@LizDoesHistory I personally like this question as it addresses an old canard that supported racism. I look forward to seeing your primary sources. Colin Kidd speaks well on this in his, "The Forging of Races" https://t.co/WNlNJj0WP0 It addresses "modern racial theories & prejudices" #H1103
@LizDoesHistory Hi, Lizzie. This question was 1st asked 100+ yrs ago. Answers include Mesopotamian creation myths (how they are similar & different) & other topics like when the Old Testament was written & the origin of the Hebrew people. It may be too broad. See https://t.co/0DwOquGWGL

The first question would look at these factors: the mission, men, machines and maintenance.
The second would explore personalities, economics, and federal requirements. It also would lay the foundation for further work on my part to explore Albuquerque's aviation history. #H1103
I'm torn between two questions:
1. Why did the 1st Aero Squadron fail to provide reconnaissance support for General Pershingβs Punitive Expedition?
2. Why did 15 years pass between the first flight of an airplane in Albuquerque & the opening of Albuquerqueβs first airport? #H1103
A good question is important as it will
- guide my research
- not rehash work already done by others
- be interesting to me and to others
- enable me to shape a good thesis
- eliminate uncertainty or misunderstanding about what I'm writing
- help me write the paper
#H1103
These steps will guide drafting a strong research question
- choose a topic interesting to me & others
- learn whatβs in primary & scholarly secondary sources
- focus on a location, time frame, person/people,
- ask βhowβ/βwhy,β compare/contrast or explain relationships
