🚨 #BurundiSaudiArabia: 50 BURUNDIAN WOMEN FACING UNEMPLOYMENT AND UNPAID WAGES
We have received an urgent appeal from approximately 50 Burundian women who were recruited to work as domestic workers in Saudi Arabia.
According to their testimony, they were recruited by KAYANA AGENCY. Before leaving Burundi, they signed employment contracts guaranteeing a monthly salary of 800 Saudi Riyals (SAR) per worker.
However, after arriving in Saudi Arabia, the situation changed dramatically.
🔹 Some of the women who have received payment were given only 120 SAR.
🔹 Others have not received any salary at all.
🔹 They were told that they would only be paid after starting work, yet many of them have not been assigned to any employer.
🔹 They also report that workers from other nationalities are being sent to work, while many Burundian women remain stranded at the recruitment center.
The women state that they are currently staying at a reception center known as TTICO in Jeddah, where they have been waiting for work for an extended period.
According to their report:
▪️ Around 50 Burundian women are affected.
▪️ About 15 women have been waiting for nearly two months without work.
▪️ Others have already waited for more than one month.
▪️ Some who were promised 800 SAR per month have received only 120 SAR.
SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS
Information available to us alleges that an Arab owner of KAYANA AGENCY, reportedly a Saudi national currently residing in Burundi, may be connected to this recruitment operation.
It is also alleged that he is the brother of Mariam, a woman who has been accused by some workers of participating in the recruitment and transfer of Burundian women to Saudi Arabia, where they later face abuse and exploitation.
We call for an independent and impartial investigation so that the truth can be established and responsibilities determined.
WE CALL UPON:
🇧🇮 The Government of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Embassy of Burundi in Saudi Arabia
🇸🇦 The competent authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
🇧🇮 The Association of Agencies Recruiting Burundian Domestic Workers to Saudi Arabia (ORAB)
🇧🇮 Human Rights Organizations in Burundi
🌍 International organizations protecting migrant workers and domestic workers
to treat this matter as urgent and intervene to protect these Burundian women.
We respectfully request that:
✅ The workers receive the salaries promised in their contracts.
✅ They are assigned to work without discrimination.
✅ If no jobs are available, they are allowed to return home safely.
✅ Their rights and dignity as migrant workers are fully respected.
✅ A thorough investigation is conducted into the role of recruitment agencies, and if any wrongdoing is found, appropriate action is taken to protect Burundian migrant workers, especially women working as domestic workers in Saudi Arabia.
No Burundian woman should be sent abroad only to spend months without work, without salary, and without protection after being promised a better future.
We call upon the Government of Burundi to break its silence and take immediate action to protect its citizens.

URGENT APPEAL – JUSTICE FOR NIYIBIZI FIDERITTE
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Niyibizi Fideritte, a Burundian domestic worker currently in Saudi Arabia. I was recruited by an agency located in Mirroir, Burundi, called JARO, and I was sent by Minani Goreth.
I am asking for urgent help because I am facing serious difficulties.
On 24 May 2026, my employer began mistreating me and eventually took me to the police station, where I was asked to sign documents. After that, I was taken to the labor office, where I was informed that I would have to pay for my own flight ticket to return to Burundi.
I explained that I had no money, but my employer told the authorities that he had already given me money. In reality, he never gave me any money, nor did he transfer any to me.
Later, he took me back to his family home. Because my situation became unbearable, I sought help from the police. When we met my employer again, he refused to discuss the matter and claimed that he had already booked my flight ticket and asked me to wait.
Two days later, he brought me back to the labor office, where I was told that I had to pay for the ticket because I had supposedly run away.
I would like this case to be investigated because:
🔹 I never spent a single night outside the house.
🔹 I was never away for more than two hours.
🔹 My employer himself took me back and personally brought me to the labor office.
🔹 I am now being told that my flight ticket was cancelled because I "ran away," but this is not true.
Another serious concern is that before bringing me to the office, my employer took back all the money he had previously given me, leaving me with nothing at all.
Today, I am still at the office and I am being asked to pay for my own flight ticket, even though I have no financial means.
We respectfully call upon:
🇧🇮 The Government of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Embassy of Burundi in Saudi Arabia
🏢 JARO Agency and Minani Goreth, who facilitated my recruitment
🇧🇮 The Association of Agencies Recruiting Burundian Domestic Workers to Arab Countries (ORAB)
🇧🇮 Human Rights Organizations in Burundi
🌍 International organizations protecting migrant workers and domestic workers
to treat this matter as urgent, investigate the facts, and help Niyibizi Fideritte obtain justice.
No Burundian worker should be falsely accused of running away when she never left the place where she was kept, nor should she be forced to pay for a flight ticket for a situation she did not cause.
We call for an independent investigation and for the full protection of her rights and dignity.
Thank you.

URGENT APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT OF BURUNDI
A Burundian woman, Akimana Godelieve, was recruited and sent to Saudi Arabia by HAYA RECRUITMENT COMPANY on 28 February 2026.
According to her family, she has gone three months without receiving her salary, and they have now lost contact with her. The last information they received was that she needed money to settle agency-related expenses. Later, they were informed that her employer claimed that she had "run away."
However, her family questions this explanation because they believe she did not have access to a phone and had been struggling to communicate with them.
This raises a serious question:
Where are recruitment agencies when the workers they send abroad disappear or face difficulties?
We respectfully call upon:
🇧🇮 The Government of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Ministry responsible for labour migration
🇧🇮 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
🇧🇮 The Embassy of Burundi in Saudi Arabia
to urgently investigate this case and determine the whereabouts and safety of Akimana Godelieve.
We also urge the Burundian authorities to take appropriate legal and administrative action against any recruitment agency that fails to protect or follow up on the welfare of the workers it sends abroad.
Recruitment agencies must not abandon migrant workers once they leave the country. They have a responsibility to assist and protect them when problems arise.
Akimana Godelieve's family is asking for one thing only: to know whether she is alive and safe.

URGENT ALERT – JUSTICE FOR BARANYIZIGIYE ELIZABETH
We are raising an urgent humanitarian appeal for Baranyizigiye Elizabeth, a Burundian domestic worker currently in Saudi Arabia.
According to the information received:
Her two-year employment contract has already expired.
She has worked an additional two months beyond her contract.
She has reportedly informed the Embassy of Burundi in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that she is being subjected to physical abuse and mistreatment.
She is still waiting for her legal rights to be respected, including the payment of all outstanding wages and her safe return to Burundi.
We call upon GLOBAL AGENCY, the recruitment agency that facilitated her travel to Saudi Arabia, to immediately take responsibility and intervene to protect her welfare and rights.
We also respectfully call upon: 🇧🇮 The Government of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Burundi
🇧🇮 The Embassy of Burundi in Saudi Arabia
🇸🇦 The competent authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
🌍 Human rights organizations and migrant worker protection groups
to urgently investigate this case and ensure that:
✅ All outstanding salaries are paid.
✅ Her physical safety is guaranteed.
✅ Any form of abuse or violence is stopped immediately.
✅ She is provided with a return air ticket and allowed to return safely to Burundi if she wishes.
No worker should be forced to remain in an abusive environment after completing her contract.
We are not seeking conflict; we are seeking justice, dignity, and protection for a Burundian woman who deserves to be treated with humanity and respect.
If anyone has information that may help in this case, we urge them to come forward.

URGENT APPEAL FOR 50 BURUNDIAN WOMEN STRANDED IN SAUDIA
We respectfully seek your urgent intervention on behalf of 50 Burundian women who were recruited to work as domestic workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
We were recruited by KAYANA AGENCY in Burundi and signed employment contracts before our departure. Our family members also signed the required documents. According to these agreements, each worker was promised a monthly salary of 800 Saudi Riyals (SAR).
However, after our arrival in Saudi Arabia, the situation became very different from what had been promised.
Some of the women who have been here for one month received only 120 SAR.
Others have not received any salary at all.
When we contacted the recruitment agency to ask why we were not receiving the agreed salary, we were given no explanation.
In addition, we are currently being kept at a reception center known as TTICO in Jeddah, where we are told that we will only be paid after being assigned to employers. Unfortunately, many of us have not been assigned to any work.
While workers from other nationalities are being sent to employers, many Burundian women remain at the center without jobs or income.
At present:
About 15 women have been waiting for nearly two months without work.
The remaining women have been waiting for approximately one month.
In total, around 50 Burundian women are affected.
We respectfully appeal to:
The Government of Burundi,

We be assigned to work without unnecessary delay.

🚨 URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP – BURUNDIAN WOMAN STRANDED IN SAUDI ARABIA 🚨
I am reaching out to seek urgent assistance for Alice NTIRANDEKIRA, a Burundian woman who traveled to Saudi Arabia for work on October 7, 2025. She has now spent eight months there under very difficult circumstances.
According to her husband, Alice worked for her first employer for only one month before she was sent back to the recruitment office without receiving any salary. While staying at the office, she became seriously ill and spent two months without work while they searched for another employer.
She was eventually placed with a new employer and worked for four months. However, up to this day, she has not received the wages she earned, even though her employer reportedly paid the money to the recruitment office.
Alice is now suffering from severe health problems. She has a serious injury affecting her leg and is unable to walk properly, sit comfortably, or sleep because of the pain.
She asked the office to use part of her unpaid salary to buy her a ticket home, but her request was refused. She was told that the ticket would come from another source and that her wages would remain with the office.
To make matters worse, she and other workers have reportedly been moved to a small metal shelter without windows, where they are kept in isolation, making it difficult for anyone to know what is happening to them.
Her family has already sought help from several authorities:
They contacted the Burundian Embassy.
They spoke with a person named Joel, who promised to follow up but no assistance has been provided.
They also contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they were advised to submit a formal letter.
Since all these efforts have not produced any results, we are appealing to government authorities, human rights organizations, migrant worker protection groups, and all people of goodwill to help bring Alice NTIRANDEKIRA back home safely and ensure that she receives the wages she has earned.

According to information provided by a member of her family, she traveled to Saudi Arabia through the STJO Agency on June 9, 2025. However, since her arrival, she has reportedly been living under extremely difficult conditions:
She has been physically assaulted several times.
She has not been paid her salary and has now gone three months without receiving any wages.
Her salary has been unfairly deducted.
She has been denied adequate food and drinking water, and at one point reportedly spent two days without food or water.
She has been locked inside the house and denied access to medical treatment despite being sick.
