@tooshrill@canderaid Renting out a property needs to be worthwhile compared to selling and investing in something else. If selling and investing in stocks/bonds/gold is better, you don't have anywhere to live.
@SteveSayersOne @DomOfClarkes @lewis_goodall It would be very convenient for me too if the poor shouldered the burden of funding the state. It just seems a bit unfair.
@DomOfClarkes @SteveSayersOne@lewis_goodall As a thought experiment - if someone said that I could pay no tax while I'm alive and then pay what I owe when I die. I'd be all for that.
Obviously that's extreme but you can work backwards from there and get to something fairer than the current system.
@SteveSayersOne @DomOfClarkes @lewis_goodall Totally agree. So would you be in favour of finding ways to help people keep the money they work for - perhaps by taxing unearned income more to fill the gap?
@TXCustodialDad@firasd@MattZeitlin If you want schools and stuff, you need to raise at least some taxes from somewhere. Of the options available, property tax is a pretty good one because land is limited and it's not a disincentive to being productive.
@savag91165@iAnonPatriot So no taxes at all? No military? No social security? There would probably be at least a few Americans who wouldn't call that a victory.
@elonmusk Why oh why would Elon Musk want to defund the IRS... 🤔? Surely the richest man in the world is the best person to set his own taxes? No conflict of interest there.
