Cutting post-harvest losses is critical to Rwanda’s food security.
A recent assessment by CCOAIB shows that up to 40% of food is lost each year due to gaps in storage, drying, processing, and market access, particularly in districts like @Nyamasheke and @Nyamagabe.
The Government of Rwanda, through @RwandaAgri, @RwandaAgriBoard, and partners, aims to reduce post-harvest losses to 5% by 2029 by investing in grain hubs, cold chains, and stronger public-private partnerships.
Reducing losses means protecting farmers’ incomes and strengthening agricultural markets.

WATCH: Legislators and civil society organisations have called for stronger protection of indigenous seeds ahead of the second reading of the East African Community (EAC) Seed and Plant Varieties Bill, 2025. David Kabanda, Executive Director of the Centre for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT), warned that the Bill, in its current form, could undermine seed sovereignty and threaten East Africa’s agro-biodiversity. EALA MP Jacqueline Amongin also urged stronger protection of indigenous seeds from competition posed by global seed products.
