Validation through Representation
Representation means validation. For an artist to be represented by a gallery is taken as a sign that he has arrived in his quest for recognition of his art. That assumption is based on a model from around 1886 in Paris, replicated in the 1950s in New York. Back then it meant that someone would believe enough in an artist to put his lifeblood on the line to ensure the artist’s survival/success. The last incarnation of such a man was Michael Werner of Cologne. https://t.co/4lLbU2gyt1
@Eve_Barlow Why is it that I see the Eyes of Josef Vissarionovich Tshugashvili and those of the late Ruhollah Mostafavi Musavi Khomeini, when I look into yours?
@DanielLubetzky It might be "cultural" at least the readiness to resort to brutal violence if someone does not want to follow the death cult. Reading Norbert Elias' The development of Civilizations from 1939 reveals the fundamental differences between culture and civilization.
@Aaron_Lowry@rossiadam Very true, although I wouldn't look at it as an unchangeable truth, but as something that might fluctuate. Some times are better than others for those who perceive more.
