The Ethiopian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who has been accused of genocide and destabilization in the Red Sea-Horn of Africa region, persists in its aggressive military activities in Tigray, which may provoke another severe conflict.
On the morning of August 20, 2026, at 11 AM local time, a drone strike conducted by the Ethiopian government targeted civilians, including children and women, in Mekelle, the national capital of Tigray. Eyewitnesses and local media reports, which provide visual evidence, indicate that civilians, including children and women, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at Ayder Specialized Hospital in Mekelle.

Ethiopia: Is PM Abiy Ahmed increasingly playing the ethnic card in Oromia, in an attempt to ethnicise the war in Amhara and elsewhere to consolidate Oromo support and shield himself in his home region?
@ProfKindeya Kindeya (አወዲ ሑሉፍ) do you know how many university girls you rap? when you were Mekele university president, we will not forget it. You can run, but you can not hide.
“Persecution of Tigrayans Unrelenting”: This morning I have drawn to the urgent attention of Africa Minister @JennyChapman a disturbing new report from @hrw Human Rights Watch documenting how authorities and security forces in Ethiopia’s Western Tigray/Wolkait Zone are continuing abuses against ethnic Tigrayans in the Zone. @YvetteCooperMP See

Ethiopian Airlines @flyethiopian Transporting RSF Combatants?
I was recently alerted to allegations that Ethiopian Airlines may have transported soldiers affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The source who contacted me provided specific details, including dates, times, departure and arrival locations, flight numbers, and the aircraft types allegedly used.
According to the source, they witnessed Ethiopian Airlines transporting Sudanese soldiers from Bole International Airport to Assosa, with the first observed flight occurring on February 22, 2026. The flight number was ET 8137, operated by a Boeing 737-860 aircraft. The source further indicated that flight ET 8139 was also used for the same purpose, operating immediately before or after ET 8137.
Following this report, I sought confirmation from additional sources within the airline and the airport. I also cross-checked the flight numbers using open-source flight radar tracking platforms.
Based on this review, I confirmed that the referenced flight numbers and aircraft have operated on the stated route beginning February 22 and continuing thereafter. Sources at Assosa Airport also confirmed the arrival of these flights. One source there claimed to have witnessed passengers from these flights being loaded into large trucks directly on the tarmac and driven away.
The primary source at Bole International Airport could not confirm where the alleged soldiers originated. Other sources speculated that they may have arrived from Juba but were unable to provide definitive evidence. I invite those with expertise in flight tracking and open-source intelligence to assist in further verifying this information.
My reason for raising these concerns is the future and reputation of Ethiopian Airlines, a cherished national institution. The airline’s image was previously damaged by allegations of its use in transporting soldiers during the conflict in Tigray. Any involvement in transporting RSF forces, widely accused of grave human rights violations, would be even more detrimental to its international standing.
I therefore strongly urge the government to cease and desist from any actions that could further harm one of our most valuable national corporate assets. I also call upon the airline’s management to safeguard its integrity by resisting the use of civilian aircraft for the transportation of military personnel, particularly foreign armed groups facing serious allegations of war crimes amounting to genocide.
A few years ago, this firm went to war against the brutal and murderous regime of Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli over its war crimes against the #Tigrayan people. We raised alarm when Abiy turned his guns against the #Oromos and later against the #Amharas. We opposed Prime Minister Abiy again when he sought to gain access to the sea by unlawfully annexing @Somalia
Now, reports indicate that Prime Minister #Abiy is contemplating military action against Eritrea. As our friend and former Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Africa, @RepJames, once stated, Prime Minister Abiy poses a threat to regional stability in the Horn of Africa, which in turn threatens global trade and U.S. strategic interests in the region.
Eritrea is itself a country of concern, a rogue state controlled by a brutal dictator. Nevertheless, the @realDonaldTrump Administration and #Congress must not permit any unlawful invasion of #Eritrea. The adverse effects of such an action on U.S. national interests in the region would be devastating.

The Ethiopian government continues to have zero understanding of media freedom. Addis Standard is an excellent publication, one of the country's best sources of independent information. Ethiopia routinely expels or arrests journalists if it dislikes their reporting.
The decision by Ethiopia's federal institutions to remove electoral districts in Tigray from the administrative oversight of the Tigray State, even for the purpose of the upcoming sham elections, is a continuation of the politics of the fait accompli, that have become Ethiopia's default mode of leadership.
The continued military occupation of Tigray's territories, coupled with the administrative reassignment of electoral districts, signals an attempt to entrench control through incremental normalisation, manufacturing facts on the ground designed to constrain the future. It is part of the effort to pre-empt the legal and political outcome by imposing military occupation of territories, and new administrative realities before substantive constitutional issues are resolved through prescribed procedures.
Such unilateral federal action constitutes a blatant violation of both the Federal and Tigray constitutions.
At a moment when the threat of renewed armed conflict looms, such measures are politically reckless and constitutionally corrosive. They further deepen distrust between the Ethiopian government and the people of Tigray, undermine the spirit and letter of the Pretoria Agreement.
It is also clear, once again, that Ethiopian institutions and their leadership remain hellbent on their blatant violations of the basic rights of the people of Tigray, the sovereignty of the Tigray State, and its people's legitimate aspirations and interests.
The animosity remains intact, as it was before the war and even after the Pretoria Agreement, as evidenced by the latest decisions.
Very little, if any thing, has changed.
Press Release from Salsay Weyane Tigray
The federal government of Ethiopia has consistently failed to uphold its constitutional duty of restoring lawful administration, despite repeated calls from Tigrayans to do so.

Abiy Ahmed has been manufacturing conflicts between Tigray and Amhara peoples. Abiy decentralizes conflict to centralize power. The latest announcement by Abiy’s electoral board is so dangerous for both peoples. We should wake up to this conspiracy!
Official Statement from the Interim Administration of Tigray
It is a recognized truth that the people of Tigray, through a bitter struggle and immense sacrifice alongside other oppressed peoples, were instrumental in establishing a constitutional order and a new federal democratic system designed to serve all citizens with equality.
However, the sanctity of this hard-won system has been repeatedly violated. Beyond the unspeakable atrocities and genocidal acts already committed against our people, a new decision has been passed that openly contravenes both the Constitution and the Pretoria Agreement. This decision directly jeopardizes the internationally recognized constitutional boundaries of Tigray.
The Interim Administration of Tigray strongly condemns this resolution, which was passed by a council lacking the representation and voice of the Tigrayan people. Given the grave and far-reaching consequences this move may provoke, we demand an immediate reconsideration and correction of this dangerous path.
