Just heard a #youngperson talk for 15 min about their #faith. Adults around me were very concerned about inaccuracies. They wanted to correct instead of be pleased that any 14 yr old is reflective enough abt. #God to have that much to say.
We're focused on the wrong things.
When something seems too big or hard, just remember that people put down an actual cable under the entirety of the Atlantic Ocean 175 freaking years ago!
So if, say, changing your ministry to meet the realities of todays young people seems daunting, I urge you to reconsider.
For older #generations (45+) the world is largely something to be explored, understood and potentially conquered.
For #genz and #genalpha, the world is something to be felt, experienced and cared for.
If you’re in #ministry, you need to watch this. 74 million people have. A lot are under age 20. Wonder where #youngpeople are & what resonates with them? This kind of #service/#vocation/#creativity resonates.

1/ Many people go through a process of religious disaffiliation at some point in their lives. It can be a difficult and confusing time, but it can also be a time of growth and self-discovery. (short thread)

#Noncompete clauses are a scourge. The argument is that without them employers wouldn’t invest in employees or #innovate . That’s BS. They’ll innovate and invest to outcompete their field. Plus, there’s a #religiousfreedom reason to ditch them. #calling https://t.co/n2Qh24jTZL
"This should be required reading at any #seminary that aims to prepare #ministers for the challenges ahead...Though the calling to #ministry needn't change, the pastoring profession must change." Dr. Samuel Perry

Religious leaders pay attention to the wrong things. They often think they're competing with secular world to convince ppl there IS a higher power & that they have the TRUTH. But data don’t bear this out. The reality is much different. 🧵 (1/7) #religion#GenZ#pastors
Oh. My. Goodness. @philvischer used my name TWO TIMES IN A SONG in this livestream we recorded tonight for @HolyPostPodcast. Every one of my campus ministry friends from 1998 would be so jealous right now! @WeAreSpringtide@SkyeJethani@txlutheran https://t.co/fztFTXNzYk
Our #ReligionAndYoungPeople2021 data on young nones challenges the assumption that they aren't engaged with or curious about #spiritual things.
In fact, 57% of #GenZ nones told Springtide they are at least slightly spiritual.

I’m really proud of this article repping @WeAreSpringtide data that I wrote with @caspertk. Gen Z is keeping the faith. Just don't expect to see them at worship. https://t.co/kUqKiZXS1n via @RNS
Students in #sociologyofreligion and #sociology generally would do well to see this as a master class in connecting agency and structure in an analysis. People always make choices. Cultures, institutions and social conditions allow those choices find a foothold, or not. 6/6
@MikeCosper podcast about Mars Hill is fascinating. The best episode, by far, is The Things We Do To Women. If I were still a professor, and he wanted one, I'd give him an MA in #sociology. Here's why:

A religious leader asked “What if things don’t go back to normal?” I said that given the exodus of young people from religion in recent years, we should be far more scared by the question “What if things DO go back to normal.” Young ppl need YOU right now, not your programs.
