DEKNA is non profitable & non gov'tal organization working on fulfilling the needs of children in the areas of basic needs, education, physical & mental health.
We're thrilled to announce the launch of a School Feeding Center at TSEHAFTI Primary School! With a capacity of over 600 students, but sadly, 1/3 are out of school due to drought. Our aim is to ensure no child goes hungry, fostering a nourished & thriving community. #Education

#Ethiopia: #Tigray war rape victims turn to #Rwandan genocide survivors to heal trauma
In Ethiopia's Tigray region, survivors of wartime sexual violence are finding hope through an innovative healing program inspired by Rwandan genocide survivors. The program, called HAL (Helpful Active Listening) circles, provides community-based support in the aftermath of widespread atrocities during the 2020-2022 war.
"I was angry all the time," says Bezunesh, a mother of eight from Bora district. "Before the war, we had a good life. My husband was a farmer, and I was taking care of the household and our eight children. But then the war started."
The war's impact on Tigray was devastating. Health authorities documented approximately 120,000 cases of sexual violence, with one district, Bora, reporting 570 confirmed cases. "Some women couldn't sleep, they felt like their head was about to explode," Bezunesh recalls of the aftermath.
A group of Tigrayan women, including medical professionals and aid workers, adapted the HAL circle approach from Rwanda. "For example, in Rwanda, women couldn't speak publicly about what had happened to them, but they used to do it privately; in Tigray, the shame was so overwhelming, that women couldn't even talk in private," explains Adelite Mukamana, a Rwandan genocide survivor and psychologist.
"I attended the HAL circle sessions and this really changed me. It is what gave me strength and hope," says Bezunesh. "The changes are very visible – in the ways we interact with our family, how we handle our children properly. It is even visible in our walking. We don't get lost anymore, and we walk more confidently."

.@MarysMeals reports on hunger in #Ethiopia, where 1 in 6 people are in urgent need of food. The need is particularly acute in #Tigray, where famine looms due to the effects of the appalling war and terrible drought, and children are dropping out of school because they are starving. People are fearing a famine that could be worse than in 1980s.
The urgent scaling up of humanitarian aid is needed to protect people from further suffering, and prevent additional loss of life. The solutions are at our finger tips.
🚨@UNICEF Deputy Exec. Dir visited Tigray, urging immediate support to avert deepening humanitarian crisis. Compounding situation, a public health emergency w/ outbreaks of cholera, measles, dengue fever, and malaria persists nationwide.
