Very proud of @bechara_juliana and Bhauna Bardolia for their high quality work in leading this #multilingual course. Their learning impact for our #ISH teachers has been huge. #DML
In their most recent unit, Journeys, Y2 students at #ISH sorted different modes of transport into groups of their choosing.Using one of their suggestions we created a #multilingual display. Of course here in The NL bikes featured often! Celebrating #all languages & bikes matter!
Providing #EAL learners the time and space to explain their #homelanguage, asking the right questions, noticing and highlighting patterns, enables us to tap into their knowledge and understanding of how their language works, make connections explore meaning and learn together.
The progress a new English student can make in his writing in 6 months time is incredible. Having access to #homelanguage to keep up w/school #concepts & to explicit English lessons from his class teacher Amy Cowings & the @ISH_EAL team make new lang. learning a huge success!
That was a great start at the #MLIEWEEK! I am sure it will be a #multilingual week full of learning, sharing and exchanging ideas and practices. Let #ECISchools inspire you too! A special thanks to @m_mccracken11 , Bhauna Bardolia and @ISH_EAL for this opportunity!
#AllLanguagesMatter at the ISH. In #IPC Y2 learned the characteristics of different types of stories. Myths answer important questions about the world. #Multilingual students asked their own questions in their #Home Languages. This tied in with learning vocabulary for questions.
The Guess Who game is a fun way to practise describing people with #ell students! It is also great for question formation and thinking of adjectives in their #homelanguages. And we, #eal teachers, love it because at #ish#alllanguagesmatter!
Remote learning is going full steam ahead at #ISH!! Our #eal children are showing us how creative, resilient and knowledgeable they are!!!! And one thing that touches us the most is that they keep using all their #homelanguages through #translanguaging!!
Our #EAL students’ prior knowledge in their #homelanguages really makes a difference when working on new #IPC vocabulary! We are currently exploring and consolidating our knowledge on the properties of materials in #science. @ISH_EAL#multilingualism
How can you integrate #IPC Technology, #Writing and Winter celebrations in one activity? Y2 #EAL students read and followed instructions to make their own star decoration to hang on a pine branch. They found the labelled diagrams a big help, pictures speak louder than words.
Y2 Russian speaking students collaborating to write and spell words in their #Homelanguage#translanguaging working on #IPC unit Stories People Tell, what makes a hero, also linked to our school community profile - be caring and risk takers. #studentledmultilingualism
We take learning and our #multilingual BRAIN 🧠 very serious @ishthehaguenl. Can you guess which @The_IPC unit we are studying? Fantastic opportunity for our students created by our #IPC leader Rick Zevenbergen!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Lovely ideas from @ISH_EAL , we can embed our #wellbeing of students further by being inclusive of their #homelanguages as we explore our brain plasticity. Let's get into that stretch zone @RhiannonPhill77 @EALdeborah@BSNJSL
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful #parents out there! 💐🌺 A #multilingual ELL told me that if he is talking to his Mum normally he uses the #Dutch ‘Mamma’ but if he wants something he uses the #Portuguese ‘Mãe’ 😆🤩 What do you call your Mum? #mothertongue#mothersday
