Professor of Human Genetics, Queen Mary University of London/ Barts & The London ~ Brain Tumours, Neuroscience, Genetics, Epigenetics, Molecular Biology
Yesterday, we were visited by Professor Cleo Bishop, who told us all about her incredible research into new treatments for basal-like breast cancer - an aggressive molecular subtype of cancer.
Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in the world, and kills one person every 45 minutes.
With our funding, @CleoBishopLab has identified a weakness in these tumours, and is exploring methods to both stop tumour growth and then kill the cancerous cells.

Important results for #melanoma. Proud of the work with international colleagues, @MelanomaAus & patients and their families - the longest follow up of any of the trials testing now standard drug therapies that save lives. Results impactful - esp for those with V600E #BRAF mutation positive melanoma. The @FDA has granted an accelerated approval to tovorafenib (Ojemda) for kids and teens who have low-grade glioma with changes in the BRAF gene. In a small clinical trial, the drug shrank or completely eliminated tumors in nearly 70% of patients. https://t.co/m9B3lA4wEn #BRAF
Finally, it's "officially" out! Very nice work by Ando et al.. The review process really boosted the quality of this method. Super-resolution microscopy for everyone! @eLife: https://t.co/hcMn49SNvP and building instructions: https://t.co/iNEhBvAqRf @ewers_helge

When we have access to advanced human pathology and clinical data, and fantastic new in vitro models that are predictive of human disease, then we have to ask the question - who needs mice? 🐁 🧵
Dear 🇬🇧,
The usual suspects are at it again, trying to convince you that the NHS — which they destroyed — isn’t fit for purpose and that you need a new healthcare system. They’re dead wrong. Here’s how to challenge them.
